Mk5hd vs NXS

What's really foolish is not realizing that Leupold lost military contracts due to can't in their reticles and it looks like to me they haven't changed it much

I'd never base anything on military contracts. Contracts come down to dollars and cents not common sense.
The gwot has seen lots of leupold and nightforce optics ran through the gauntlet and performed admirably.

10 4 if leupold wanted to build a scope that uses half again thicker aluminum than what they use they could but they are in a business that serves millions versus a handfull of people that think spending an extra 1000 makes them a better shot most people don't need or will never need any thing better than a Tasco it's just opinions. David

David g ranes,

To be reasonable we need to compare only the top tier Leopold with Nightforce. Not the whole line. And then compare percentage of scopes with problems.
Can we expect you to get that information from each company and report back like I said you can't really compare scopes that way almost 2 lbs to ones that are half that they were designed for different purposes how many people whine about shaving ounces by using lighter rings then you tell me you hike mountains carrying that heavy a scope I'm not saying night force isn't a good product but I guarantee you there isn't as many of them floating around out there as there are others if you don't believe me go stand ato a gun counter at cables aND see what goes through there in a week and then you'll see what I'm getting at. You do realize both the 20 power and 32 power nx8 are actually lighter than the 5-25 leupy mark 5 hd right? This thread is about the nx8 and mark 5hd.

The 18 power mark 5hd is only 2 ounces lighter than either nx8 as well.

You do realize how long they have been on the market I guess not. David

You're derailing the OP'S thread. He's wanting comparisons of the nx8 and mark 5 hd from people who've had both. This has nothing to do with units sold by each company and certainly nothing to do with any other leupold line.

Please contribute experience with each of the products the OP asked about.
I seen nothing about nx8 in the post I'm just stating there is nothing wrong with leupold scopes and will argue the point you don't have to be biased by people that think spending more is needed. David

Looking at the same dilemma. lightweight rifle that shoots fine out to 1200 meters at the range with old vortex 5-15 but want, want, want! Did a comparison of a number of scopes; repeatability, weight, reputation, light gathering, glass, etc... and while initially leaning towards Minox, Kahles, ZC, diminishing returns had me look at the OPs original question. Looking through them, limited, i thoight the Lup was brighter and easier to get in to, but thats admittedly with 2 minutes looking through a NF. Have a bunch of Lups but old, had an Ior, number of Vortex, but again, came down to these two scopes for value/$. Like to hear more thoughts fir the OPs question

Not a fan of the Kahles. It has the price of the ATACR, Tangent, S&B with the performance of the Razor HD. I'm sure that I'll get flack for that. This thread has definitely derailed, but the Zero Comp scope is absolutely unreal. It's the only optic I think is comparable to the Tangent. Pricey, which is KING.

If it means anything OP, I just ordered my 3rd Mark 5HD 5 minutes ago.
