March Scopes, Tough Enough?

My son and I each purchased a March 2.5-25 x 42 scope in 2012 with the MTR-1 reticle.
His was mounted on a 9.5 lb. (including scope) unbraked 375 RUM shooting 350 grain Sierras and mine on a also unbraked 10.5 lb.(including scope) 338 Edge shooting 300 grain Bergers. They have performed flawlessly under the heavy recoil. I had been through 2 scopes previously that would not hold zero, one of which was a Leupold returned 3 times. I missed an elk with the Leupold that I thought I made a good shot on and when I checked the zero it was off by 14 inches.
On an elk hunt in 2015 I fell with my March scope hitting on the rocky ground hard enough to scratch up the windage turret real bad but the scope held zero. In 2016 my sons scope had something just barely visible in the lower right of his scope, probably the same issue as a previous poster. We were wanting to change our reticles anyway to the heavier MTR-3 so I contacted March directly and sent them to Japan. The scopes were back in about 3 weeks with no issues and they replaced my windage turret for no charge. I highly recommend them.

How did the MTR-3 perform for you in comparison to the MTR-1?
To my eyes, the MTR-1 was just too fine for hunting and was difficult to see with dark backgrounds. The MTR-3 is much better and is still fine enough (.08 on 20 power) for precision long range work.

Ryan Pierce Of Piercision Rifles has a jig for testing reticle moment. March is one of very few that have passed his test. The guy is very picky... Builds incredible rifles as well. I have one of his 300 Norma Imp rifles with March 2.5x25.52 and love it. Its the rifle in my member photo.

My 3-24x42 has a fine a cross hair as I would ever like but was most affordable model when the March marketing arm was selling out inventory. I grilled them before purchase because have had issues with wire reticles and told my self never again. March assured me it would take some huge G force impact. Just this Fall took a bad fall on iced over mud slamming flush on the side of scope adjustment cover. No dents but severe impact. Was doubtful it would hold zero but did. May have also helped having March stout rings and bases which even my gunsmith likes. With that said in bad slam bam hard to not bet on the side one of my robust Nightforce scopes.

The other day Ryan told me only two scope brands passed his test. One was March. I already forgot the other one. It was too heavy.

Kahles.

Scope checkers are going to open a lot of eyes in the scope industry. They don't lie and will put the manufacturers under a lot of scrutiny.

That's good to know.

Wasn't Kahles associated with Swarovski at some point or used Swarovski glass?

I would call the above the poster child of a bogus post.

Instead of talking out yer a-zz, go check out Broz's posts on longrangeonly.com about March. People that have been here longer than a couple days know Broz calls it straight up...

Wow. Never mind. I read that on long range only but I think it was user error. Not broz but the guy who put the scope on the rifle

Just so you know, not all the posts are visible on the longrangeonly thread because Broz deleted them. Mine was one of them because I backed up what another poster with much more experience than me had said concerning the reliability of March scopes. I will not name the other poster, he is on this forum as well and can confirm if he wishes.

Whether or not the post claiming March scopes did not hold zero was valid or not, when members post their experiences to the contrary and the moderator (who opened the thread) deletes them and promotes the brand who is a sponsor of the forum he moderates is problematic and lessens the confidence of the members who want to fairly express their views.
