Has your boy shot any other rifles and what did he think? I'd agree with most probably something .243 or .264 would be good.
6 arc!The ideal choices for deer are already listed. 6.5 Creed, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Swede, 7-08,….
Thinking about the 243 Win, I feel you would be better off with a 6 creed or 6 ARC as they are both similar, but newer high head height chamberings.
Welcome to LRH, and enjoy! I started both my sons (now 35 and 33) hunting at age 10 with a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. If you are not a reloader, go to your local gun store and see what is readily available and with the most choices on the shelf. Where I live, it is 6.5 CM, .308 Win, and .30-06.I'm tossing the idea of getting my son a riffle for Christmas. he will be 9 in march. He has been shooting 22 for several years now and is doing really well with it. So I'm thinking of getting him a deer riffle that he Can practice with until He is of age to hunt. What are some options for low recoil deer calibres. Thanks for your input

2nd this, either a 243 (6mm creed or .243 win) or 264 (6.5 creed), both good young en calibers and readily available cartridges.Has your boy shot any other rifles and what did he think? I'd agree with most probably something .243 or .264 would be good.
+1. Options 30-30243 lever action, all day long, and twice on Sundays.
