Lead poisoning from eating game shot with lead core bullets?

Been eating deer, squirrels, rabbits, and birds killed with lead my whole life. I'm 53. In addition to steaks and tenderloin, if there's spaghetti, tacos, burgers, chili, sloppy Joe, lasagna, etc at my house for the last 40yrs, its made with deer that was killed with lead. Not saying it can't happen, but if anyone should suffer side affects from animals killed with lead, it should be me. So far my yearly physicals have not found any problems other than the 20lbs I need to lose.🙂

Holding them in your mouth and eating them hardly compare
No but I dare say you get more exposure that way than you would in a reloading room. Thankfully I never swallowed one.

I know that ingested lead in adequate quantities is not necessarily good for the body. But I don't buy into lead in meat from rifle bullets or small shot in game being a major problem. If it were there would be quite a few of us that wouldn't be around anymore.

After a few conversations with my uncle that is a well driller I'm far more concerned about the water we drink vs lead in animals I killed .and consumed.

The anti-hunting groups like Peta & the HSUS have prmoted non-lead bullets because their normal anti-hunting jargon wasn't working! It fits into their agenda of making anything with which they disagree so expensive, fewer people will do it! They're also somewhat successful using this tact too when we see places like California outlawing all lead ammo and hunters buying into it.
Not much choice! It's crock of **** too. I stop hunting their after they place no lead shot for huntng all birds.
If you live in some areas in the USA. They still have white Lead lines from watermains to the house. Depending on what water is running thru those line can pick up a lot of lead. If you remember Flint MI. They and still ran water that eats white lead lines up. I don't know if that has been corrected completely or not. There is way to stop the leaching of lead from the water lines. At time there was requirements on allowable lead contin in water by the Fed's. I don't how they got by it for years. I am wonder why the Director didn't go to jail for awhile. I have about 30yrs on a Board of Director of a Water District. We had to test our water every year and a major test every 3 years. The white lead is in a lot of waterlines to the houses from the mains. The in Eastern part of the country.

While i don't subscribe to the media hype over lead, long term placement of toxic substances in the mouth (as part of the digestive system), can absorb into the bloodstream.

An old fellow electrician used to put the stripped off ends of the insulation in his mouth like a toothpick. It became toxic in his bloodstream and he was hospitalized for a short period. But this was from years of this daily practice.

I believe most of it has been removed in our area. The people were instructed to run the water for a few minutes after lack of flow for extended periods (overnight, after work, ect...) as it takes time to leech into the water. Our mains had already been replaced, but the lines to many homes had not.

That where the problem is in the lines to the homes. That's where the white lead piping is. Don't let them pull the wool over your eye's. Yes running the tape water before getting a drink does help. Kids are the most effected, and have tested high on lead build up in their bodies. What's woret is the people that set on the board knew about the problem before they even start to import water.
It's one thing not knowing and the other is knowing and still allow it to happen. Stupid and deadly all at the same time.
I can remember when the Fed's required the testing, and there was pently that came a long with it too. Nothings was done about it there.
I realize that the mainline are buried dept their because of frostline. It's was done all over the Eastern States. I know the New York and other major cities all have the same problem.
I have lost track of what the other parts of the country has done to correct the problem. It's more to due with what type of water being used or supplied.

Flint water issue was a colossal screw up by Flint and City of Detroit. Anyone with even minimal water treatment knowledge should have spoke up. Nobody did. Water supply decisions were not based upon any potable water policies or regulations. Mind boggling stupidity that is so commonly displayed by municipal leaders clueless of environmental requirements. Save money on a basic right of citizens, clean potable water.

I expect that we have safe drinking water here where I live, but a little extra precaution never hurts. I have a high-density water filter directly below the kitchen sink. It should remove lead and all types of contaminants like microbes, asbestos, mercury, etc.
I also run a Hepa filter in the house for cleaner air.

For whatever reason, L.I. has a high incidence of cancer, particularly breast cancer. It has been researched to death and there has never been a definitive explanation as to why it is so high.

Sometimes I think no matter how much research gets done it's just very hard to pinpoint the actual culprit.. Particularly with cancer
We have a high incidence of mercury in certain gamefish here. To the point that the state has put out acceptable limits of the different species that you can eat and remain safe. Most of us don't doubt the Mercury is there. Lots of folks don't know about the Mercury. Many people that do choose not to adhere to the recommended amount for consumption. But I have never heard of a case where someone has been affected by Mercury poisoning from eating fish here. There may have been some cases. I just haven't heard of it. Off topic I know but a semi- similar scenario.

I have seen signs that tell fishermen that they should limit consumption of caught fish to one serving a month. There is absolutely no chance that I'd eat a fish from those waters once in a lifetime. LOL
