I reached out to Manners to see if it would be possible for them to remove a high gloss finish on a stock. While it can be removed from the stock itself, they said that getting it out of the checkered grip/forend areas would be nearly impossible without damaging the stock.

My question for everyone here is, do you think applying Krylon matte finish would cover it up?

What is the material of your stock?

I have used 0000 steel Wool and oil to degloss a Browning hi gloss. Results in a nice even degaussed finish.

I have used a matte spray over a spray painted stock as a "sealer".

I'd do this. Really fine wool or paper to just knock down the shine. Checkered areas will be tough though like they mentioned. But depending on your patients you could get in there and get after those areas too...
