Kodiak brown bear rifle

It's off topic but I thought I would post it here for those who are following.
I put my guide gear together to make sure I had all that I needed and what was going to fit in what bags.
All this goes to Alaska

Looks like you're ready to go!

Best of luck M8, hope you slam a record Kodiak! Can't wait to see the pictures with the Happy Hunter! :)

I head up to the brooks range the last of august. I will spend 30 days there getting my required time in for my guides license. Then next may I head to the peninsula to go for brown bear. Those 2 trips will fill my required days to get my assistant guides license. Then I should be guiding by next fall.

I just have to ask, this is the 3rd rifle built by your gun builder and he knows you are going up this year so why will he not have this gun ready for you to take? I know these guys have lots of work but I would think 5 months would be plenty of time to get it done for you.please don't take this the wrong way as I would love to be in your shoes good luck.

Went to the Alaskan Peninsula 4 years ago. Took a great 10' Bear @ 330 yards. I know, it was a long shot for a BIG Bear but felt comfortable with my .340 Weatherby, 250 gr Barnes off sticks. Solid hit to the shoulders. Recovered the bullet on the off shoulder just under the hide. Retained 237 grs. It was the last day and across a steep canyon. Hunt of a life time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Here is a photo to get you in the mood! Griz

Sounds like fun

I like the 375s for the big bears. 375 ruger or HH up close or 375 rum or 378 why at distance. The 378 is a real power house if you can handle it and shoot it well. Make you have a quality action that feeds well. Nothing feeds better than the HH. Muzzle brake for sure but keep it covered in the snow and brush. Good luck!

So I have had a great opportunity to go and hunt Kodiak Bears presented to me. I am taking it!!!
Problem is I don't have the rifle needed for the job.
I am looking for suggestions from guys or gals who have experience with these bears and their rifle/caliber choice.
I would go with a 338win mag. Or a 300RUM would be my choices. 300RUM would be the gun I would use first.

Well I had forgotten about this thread. Shame on me. Here it is 2022 and at the end of it no less.
Let me update this.
I'm a full time assistant guide now. I've had many great seasons since this original post. I never got to hunt the big brown bears but have been guiding for them. Also been guiding for moose, caribou, grizzly bears and wolves.
I've been socking away my guide money for a Dall sheep hunt. I'm scheduled for 2024 now. Paid in full!! What a journey this dream has taken me on. Should be a adventure of a lifetime
I finally settled on my rifle choice for guiding in Alaska. It has worked out great for the last 4 years.
375 RBH (338 Norma mag necked up and improved) with a 270 grain Hammer @ 3000fps

With its 22 inch barrel it's very packable in the alders on the peninsula and the willows of the Brooks range.
It's been a wild ride so far and I'm still hanging on to see how far I can go with this

Great choice: I have a similar caliber 375 Lapua improved (also have a 458 LAI in the works for Africa, the 458 has a 22 in. tube like yours.)

270 Hammers at 3k is more than enough to kill anything on the planet even if it is mad. I have a 375 Wby I got 270 Swift A frames up into the 2800 range.
