Since when is a hotdog meat? Have you watched videos of the manufacturing process?
My dad sometimes skips the meat! He's an old farmer and avid gardener, there is nothing he loves more than a fresh garden veggie sandwich. I recall many times growing up he'd have the biggest grin on his face eating a sandwich of moms homemade bread, with butter, cucumbers, lettuce, radishes, and tomatoes from the garden with salt and pepper. A farmers sandwich.A protein between two carbs.
You're overthinking it man!!!!NOPE, it's a sausage, look at the origins..... A sammy needs 2 slices of bread, sliced meat or veggies. Not cased meat even though modern dogs are not cased, the original was... just my .02

I Can appreciate your thought here, but then that would disqualify the "submarine" sandwich. Then one thing that this argument has going for it is the fact that the sub sandwich has 'sandwich in its name. I haven't heard anybody call a hotdog a 'hotdogs sandwich'. But again, does that just mean the hotdogs, whether refuring to the sausage or the 'sandwich' version, is called by a singular name?A "sandwich" requires two pieces of sliced bread. So, I say NO, a hotdog is not a sandwich. But does it matter? LOL
Vegetable sandwich, add a couple slices of meat and in Wv it's called a Hoagie. My dad sometimes skips the meat! Of course, being a cattle and grain operation there was always beef around, he'd typically grill up a steak to make up the difference later that day
But seriouslyā¦meat or no meat, a fresh toasted tomato sandwich with salt and pepper is a beautiful thing in itself

Have been super informative.
I wonder if the hotdogs transcends the common sandwich and is not only not in a subset or type of sandwich, but it is some how superior to sandwiches in general. Like the king of England is somehow a citizen of the country but vastly different. Do you know what I mean? Or maybe its like harry, the red headed royal hasbeen that really has royal blood but has been carelessly cast aside by a general public that thinks itself superior...
Therein lies our answer: Hotdog buns are a single piece of bread, not 'two' as in the definition of a sandwich.Sandwich definition in the Oxford dictionary: an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.
Pictures look like a BLT and a Sub.
Those are fighten words. Since when did West Virginia lay claim to the term "hoagie"? That is strictly southeast Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, any place else its just a sub and I haven't had a good hoagie since I left Pa. 48 years ago. Next you'll be telling us pork roll and scrapple originated in West Virginia as well. , further, hotdogs are not a sandwich unless they fall on slices of bread.Vegetable sandwich, add a couple slices of meat and in Wv it's called a Hoagie.
