I think it depends on two things: 1) Does the individual hot dog identify as a sandwich and 2) Does the eater of the hot dog identify as a red blooded patriotic American. If either of those is not true then what you have is processed meat and other non-organic materials compressed in a cylindrical shaped object harnessed within a grain based edible handling sleave.
I eat a hot dog without the bun...so mine is definitely not a sandwich. I like to cut the hot dogs up and fry 'em til they turn black, add a lot of real butter and scramble them with eggs. My wife doesn't like to cook them as black as I do, she says it's burned. Kinda strange as I prefer my game meat med-rare to med...Seriously, is a hot dog actual meat? It's more like bologna, I say that facetiously as I'm not sure what's even in a hot dog.:p

Now I want a crème soda……

LOL, as a kid my parents would get me and my sister Dr. Brown's, my sister loved the cream and the celery also, I was a black cheery boy, all the way! Never cared for the cream, or the celery, I think they called it cel-ray. I must be a strange person, I don't drink soda anymore, too sweet for me. I take ice tea with me when hunting, my drink of choice these days...regular Lipton without any sugar. I heard a rumor we need 8 glasses of ice tea each day! I'm meeting that requirement for certain, as I drink about a gallon a day.👍

I

Okay okay I'll play along!!!!

Upon deep introspection and analysis of the data I believe this is a classic case of "letter of the law vs spirit of the law". Or of the difference between wisdom and knowledge.

The classic example being

"knowledge is knowing that a tomato is technically a fruit. Wisdom is not putting tomatoes in a fruit salad".

I think technically yes absolutely a hot dog is a subset, an individual species, "Frankfurticus Maximus" or "Schnitzelschack Americanus" perhaps of the genus "A. Sandwichii" - it's meat in between bun/bread product, technically a sandwich. Letter of the law sandwich. Knowledge sandwich.

But I argue that in the spirit of the law and wisdom and common sense…

A HOT DOG IS NOT A SANDWICH.

You could argue it is and use a dictionary and technicalities and letter of the law reasoning and knowledge divorced from reason…..

But the REAL PROOF is in your heart, your gut reaction, your intrinsic knowledge that you don't have to convince yourself is true, because you just know it, in your bones….the REAL PROOF is that if your friend walked up to you with some hot dogs and said

"Hey man I got us some sandwiches"

Your unthinking and immediate reflex is to say "that ain't a sandwich….."

Tell me I'm wrong!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
If I ever need an attorney, I'm calling this guy!
What jury could resist THAT argument?

This is like asking a good ole boy from down south what kind of "coke" does he want.

Coca-Cola, Root Beer, 7UP, Crème Soda………
Man don't start on that. I can't even get the right Pepsi half the time. There are so many kinds. I just want a straight up old fashion Pepsi. I long for the days when there was just one kind and it came in a glass bottle.

I'm going with NO, the hotdog is not a sandwich. If it was, it wouldn't be called a Hotdog. It would simply be called a "Weiner Sandwich". Just my simple thought process. Don't confuse me
