IMR 4350 Why is it so Expensive,?

Imr 4350 is $78 a pound at bass pros shop and achemedy sports also .
I suppose I should have got a few pounds when I saw it today at LGS for $59.99 lb. I settled for 8lb of Leverolution @ $264.00, it was the last one. And 2 lb of Ram Shot Tac @ 45.00 lb.
The war in urikrane is the reason powder and primers went way up they use tons of them a day there.
I call BS. We used how much in the Middle East for 20 years. Was there shortages ? Yes at times. But I bet I can figure out why. And my guess would be the same today.
If you were on the receiving end of this and making more for less. Would you want change ?

Just recalling a time back in the early 80's when my brother and I drove 40 miles to a neighboring town for a sale at an appliance and sporting goods store. The owner of the store was an avid skeet/trap shooter and hunter, so back in the 60's, he modified the back of his appliance store to carry reloading and other supplies.

When we arrived and asked about any powders on sale, the owner directed us to a very large box sitting on the floor in the back, and that box contained scores of cans of powders he was clearancing out for newer stocks. We dug threw and found many cans of IMR 4350, 4831, 4320 and 4064 for $5 per can. I think we grabbed around 20 or so cans and called it good, but we left many more in that box.

What would I give today to find a similar deal like that? Even then, those were good prices.

I was at a local Estate auction Saturday to get a lawn mower. And they were auctioning some reloading supplies. I did get 600 WIN LRP for $40.00. But shotgun powder was going dirt cheap. 4 & 8 LB jugs for $40.00 on the high side. I am now kicking myself for not at least getting a 8 lb. But I wasn't sure how much I would spend on the mower. lol

Geez. I would have floated you a loan. ;)

I bought a can of ar-comp the other day for $64, to replace an almost empty can that still had the price sticker on It... $26! I don't shoot much ar-comp :)

Same thing down here! I have very little experience with VV but it seems like I will be gaining some familiarity with it real soon. IMR4831 and 7828ssc are 2 others that are scarce in my neck of the woods.
Same here. Alliant and IMR are MIA.

At the local gun store (where I work haha) we haven't been able to get our hands on a lot of powders, but at least have a decent stash of H4350, H4831sc, h380, superformance, and StaBall 6.5. Those first two powders really do cover A LOT of bases if push comes to shove.

Much more limited supply of retumbo, varget, benchmark, LVR, cfe223…a bunch of others we just got a few pounds left of. Bringing in some US869 to cover the slow base as the retumbo will be all gone, probably within the week.

The point is, if it ain't hodgdon it might as well not exist, at least in Canada. During times of shortage and instability (so basically the last decade haha) if it weren't for hornady bullets and hodgdon powders I don't know if I'd have been able to do much handloading at times, love them or hate them they keep me in the game when everyone else is absent.
