i'm sure this has been hashed over more than once but besides the A.I. is there any other improved 06"s out there and is it worth the trouble? i reload so thats not a real issue thaxnks

I'm not sure what you mean? Do you want to know if there's any other improved versions of the .30-06, or do you want to know all the Improved calibers based on the '06 cartridge?

I mean you have all the crazy wildcats out there. Then you have some more common calibers like:

6mm-06
6mm-06 AI
.25-06
.25-06 AI
6.5-06
6.5-06 AI
6.5 Sherman
.270
.270 AI
.30-06
.30-06 AI
.338-06
.338-06 AI

But I'm sure there's all kinds of other crazy stuff inbetween and larger and smaller calibers.

There is the 30 Gibbs. I do not if is worth the trouble, only you know how much you will put up with.

was thinkin about the 30.06 AI but figured to ask before ventured that way

You asked, "...is it worth the trouble?" What is worth the trouble to you? The 30.06 AI will give you about 3 gr more capactiy than the standard .06 That will not get you another 50 fps. Is the fire forming worth it? If the cool factor is is what you like, then maybe it's worth it. If i want more performance than the .06, I would look at the RCM, SAUM and/or WSM.

+1
'06 ai went the way of the dodo when chrono's came into vogue.

Going to a slower or progressive burn powder will net you more fps than an ai job on an '06 will. Better yet is to go bigger like a wsm or regular 300win. Most of the gains on ai rounds are actually from overloading as bolt thrust pressure signs like ejector marks happen at higher pressures. The '06 ai is especially feeble as there isn't a heck of a lot of shoulder to swing forward to a sharper angle.

The rule on fps gained from capacity increase at equal pressure is 25% of the increase in volume as a percent. So if you have a 3% increase in volume you will have less than 1% increase in velocity given same pressure, bbl. length, propellant, etc.. You can't even slow your powder speed down much more as the capacity gains don't let you get into another speed range of powders.

I once took advantage of the 30-06 AI for this reason: Barrel on win model 70 lightweight was worn out. My gunsmith had a new 308 win takeoff. The standard 30-06 won't clean up a 308 chamber but the 30-06 AI will.
