338 lapua improved?

If you can get a box to fit the heavies in your rifle then go with a Lapua. Otherwise I'm very happy with my 338 Norma Imporved. Shoots amazing and I run the 300 grain all day long.

Agreed! My .338 Thor (3.7" COAL in 3.850" LM mag) with Berger 300 OTM.

I run a desert tech so have 4" mag to use. So i went with the 338 lapua improved 26" 1-9.4 twist. It is a monster. Shootin the 285 eldm at 2940 fps with retumbo. I have plenty of room to lengthen the throat also but it shoots so good i aint gonna change it. So i just bought another lapua improved barrel with a longer throat! 28" 1-9.4" twist with a long throat. Should be able to get more speed with it.

That's one major bonus running a DT, Mag length!!!! I run my .338 NM AI in a SRS and an MRAD, luckily I can run my MRAD load without issues with OAL

For sure! Love my desert techs! What bullet and speed you got in the nmAI?

Out of my DT with a 22" barrel I get 2740 with 300gr Sierra and Bergers. With Retumbo.

My 28.5" out of my MRAD or its a 30" I can't keep track, running 300 gr. Sierra and Berger using LRT powder 2766. Once I burn my LRT powder I'll go to Retumbo loads for the MRAD. Not pushing it super hard.

What's your budget? If you build a .338 LM/I, RUM, or EDGE, you will need a COAL of ~4.00" or greater to take advantage of the heavy high BC bullets, esp. with monos. This is one of the reasons I went with .338 NM over .338 LM.

Also MPA has a really nice 338LM designed Tactical Reamer.
