Illinois 2024 Deer Season Success!

Used my new Savage 400 Legend, 215g XTP, at 2225fps MV on a "wounded" deer.
I like high shoulder shots...none have walked since i started doing this 15yrs ago...and no I dont notice a difference of "loss" meat...because I dont lose the deer...they drop DRT!!

Nice! I'd rather lose some of the front shoulder meat than the deer. There's not a whole bunch there anyway… I like the shoulder shot but it depends on what cartridge/bullet I'm using and the range. I kinda dig the 400 Legend from the little I've read about it. Way to be patient.

Yeah, high shoulder where it's at. Don't even need a super copper bullet.

Agreed, but I don't want to take a chance him becoming coyote meat
