I know I am not the only one: Weatherby 307

I got a 307 Meateater in 6.5 CM for my son. Haven't been able to shoot it yet as I'm chasing storms. I did handle it a bit last trip home. Like it enough I'm debating one of the Carbon versions.

Made in the USA. Designed and built in Sheridan, WY. Price point between the Vanguard and Mark V. Here's a good write up on it after its introduction last year.

Adam, (I realize your last post is OLD, but just in case you read this)

I'm curious in regard to the 307. I had inquired to you folks in the past, when the 307 first came out, but you didn't offer a magnum bolt face in the short action for some odd reason, but given the 6.5 WRPM is a long action, that didn't help me. I was messaging with Jacob, and I sent another email to him to say I was a bit puzzled as I was most likely the first person asking about it, but your support never contacted me back.

I just purchased a barreled blueprinted 307 action from PTG, and Pacific Precision Grinding & Machine is doing the blueprinting. They are using a Stiller style bole, so maybe they buy the stripped action from Weatherby?

PTG is selling the blueprinted action for the holidays for $499, but they want a $225 upgrade for the magnum bolt, where they're doing the mag bolt face on a short action. The price with the barrel is almost the same as just the action. In the past a barreled action was not something you folks would do.

What was your reasoning for not offering a magnum bolt face on the short action originally and only on the long action initially?

Can you tell all of us anything about your brass? How it compares to Lapua, ADG, Peterson, et al I typically use Lapua brass when I can, but was thinking to give the Weatherby 6.5 PRC brass a try.

I did grow up not far from your granddad. My family owned a liquor store next to a gunshop he used to frequent. It was run by a guy named Mike Bennett, our liquor store was named Lyn-Gate liquor, on the border of Lynwood and Southgate at Long Beach and Tweedy.

Good to see you posting. I'm looking forward to the 307 I ordered from PTG, however many Weatherby parts are on it. Hopefully you're not offended, but you should follow up with Jacob and find out why he never got back to me.

EDIT: for extra credit, is it possible that you would tell us what reamers you use to chamber your rifles? I'm guessing it's just SAAMI, but the tenon depth on the 307 seems a tad deeper than the Remmington spec...but since you sell brass, it would be helpful to people reloading your brass to know what type of reamer you use. My guess is that PTG uses their own reamers, and why I typically stick to Redding dies. PTG has traditionaly supplied reamers to Redding. But in the case of 6.5 PRC, the reamer is the SAAMI spec. Is using the same reamer/brass an old wives tale?

Alan
