Hunting Rifle: Anyone Else Have No Desire for a Silencer?

If you can get over the economic hurdle and can be patient for a few months, do it! You won't want to hunt or shoot any other way.

I was hesitant for a lot of years and even defiant because I think we shouldn't have to jump through hoops for one of our inalienable rights. Plus I didn't want to be in a "list" with ATF. I thought further and realized that I'm already on list, my defiance was only hurting myself, and I was willing to wait longer for a build from a reputable smith. So I broke down and got one a few years back and am so glad I did. I even held out and didn't use it for a few years for hunting because of added weight and length. A new rifle designed to be shorter and still just as fast, solved that problem, and after using it to hunt one time, my hunting partners who were also holding out for various reasons went and got their own suppressors. Now we won't hunt without them.

I don't shoot unsuppressed if I can help it, and I don't shoot with anyone else that shoots unsuppressed if I can help it. (and I usually can, help it)

Once I started shooting with a can, it's hard to NOT want one on. Handguns to rifles, I try to use one for all.

What caliber are you shooting that you will use only one can for all, or did I misunderstand ?? I'd like to buy one for all to fit my 270, 350 Legend, and 243.

Long story short. The greatest advantage is being able to talk with your hunting partners and being able to hear after the shot. One of the two you have to give up while hunting unsuppressed. Either one of those should be enough of a reason to consider a suppressor.

Bonuses to using a suppressor:
1- Ear muffs are heavier than a suppressor and still have to be out on
2- foamies are a PiTA and often get lost. And I hardly ever took the time to put either them or muffs in place when the time to shoot was at hand.
3- The suppressor is there and ready to go
4- follow up shots (yes they can happen) are so much easier when shooting suppressed. I have yet to have animals take off running after a suppressed shot. Sometimes they lift a head or look around and then move off — I think it must sound like it's way farther away that it is and not directed at them; it's kind of wild actually. I love not spooking the game —> target buck/bull down and his buddies just work their way off instead of blowing out on a dead run, also theoretically could allow for you and a partner to tag out. Too much work for us to try so far, but I would like to try if we find a couple giants hanging together.

This will be my next suppressor. 9 oz. 36 cal hole. Can put a 2 oz quick detach (same as a brake or even a thread protector) on every rifle you want to use it on.

I wish I had a suppressor for all my rifles from the time I was young. I'd still have some hearing left.
I have one on a custom built 300 Win Mag built from a Model 70 Winchester. It only adds a few ounces and I can keep 3" group at 500 yards which is way further than I'd ethically shoot any animal. I personally hate muzzle brakes because they make even a quiet rifle a screaming banshee!!! But a suppressor should be mandatory.

Unfortunately my hunting rifles have the BOSS system, no can! I see no new rifles in my future as I have no interes in "sexy" calibers. The classic ones suit me just right.
I do have supressors on my black guns and like those.

I have a rifle with a BOSS, it's loud and shooting it without hearing protection isn't the smartest thing to do. Maybe mine is louder, it is a magnum and probably 15gr+ more powder than your 30-06. I'm certainly not shooting any rifle with a brake on it without some sort of hearing protection. I do tend to like directional brakes a lot more than radial brakes. A suppressor is on my list of things to get, I have plenty of rifles that I'll shoot one or two rounds without ear pro on but not more than that.

I have all but 2 M70 calibers with BOSS! At the range BOSS or no BOSS I use DOUBLE ear protection! I only hunted with 243, 270 and 30.06 BOSS, since 1997! The way the angle of the ports is cut, it effects people around you more that the shooter! Facts!
A 308 with a brake (my 20" AR10) is louder than a 300 WBY without a brake! Fact! I hunted with a 300WBY without a brake for 10 years and no protection during the hunt!
I never handed with my 300 win msg boss or my 338 win msg boss!
I only state things I have experience! If it is an opinion, I say so! Just check my posts!

WHAT? I'm done hunting with brakes or guys that have them.
Its a trade off, a big trade off if you like long barrels or light rifles. Less noise and recoil are a good thing.
I like them enough to have two and considering a couple more. Can they be put on every rifle I own= nope. Do they mess with your POI= Yep but that can be worked out in most cases.
Just like anything else they have thier place.

I've got multiple cans. I have 2 rimfires (Innovative Arms and TBAC), a 45 cal Inn Arms for pistols, a TBAC Ultra 7 and 338 and a 30 cal Inn. Arms.
The 350 legend makes it difficult for you to only have one. The 30 cal cans work great IMO for 30 cal and less.
