How to choose a bushing size?

Thanks Mike knew there was another factor....friction! I had forgotten that fact. A friend who shoots 1000 yd competition told me years ago his necks needed to be carboned up after annealing. He saw a difference in performance most likely due to the super clean insides of the necks offering more friction. I had forgotten that fact until this discussion.

I think most handloaders will sort out this stuff and find a way that works for them. I have used many of the methods mentioned. Knowing this stuff, it always amazes me how accurate my rifles and my friend's rifles shoot using standard FL dies with sizer ball.
