How not, to use a 6.5 creedmoor

I have witnessed worst shooting, way closer. By a clown driving a .300 Weatherby. What's exhibited in the video has nothing to do with the chambering. A poor shot/ shooting is just that. No matter , in the end the Elk was just as dead.

Yep, pretty poor shooting with a deer rifle...... Not impressed. We have all wounded an animal, but it is sad when they are wounded by poor marksmanship and wrong cartridge.

How is it the wrong cartridge? The first correctly placed shot dropped the bull with authority. Marsmanship kills, not magnums.

Because it looks to me like the first shot would have done the job if he had enough gun.
Was the shot perfect? No. But selecting a cartridge that is only good enough when everything goes perfectly is a recipe for a video like this.

A elk suffering needlessly is what's the matter. If you can't see that after the video and 7 pages of comments you may want to reconsider why your hunting.

I'm quite sure that anyone on this forum who are true hunters, there are not any hunters who, and....to add insult put the hunters name and hunting party at the end of the video. I took a bear one year that we refer to as "BOOBOO", we don't very often talk about it, and there are not photographs of it either.

I watched an elk take a 180 from a 7 mag high shoulder and lived for 42 minutes before we could get a finishing shot this last year. Saw a bull take 6 rounds from a 300 rum with 180 ballistic tips until it finally died this last year. 2 years ago bull took a 180 from my old stw in the chest and lived for 47 minutes until he finally died.

Burnt out on these guys rubbing each others cranks over the hatred for the 6.5 creedmoor. If you hunt at all you will see just about every cartridge not do it's job correctly.

I guess you could say that I one of those guys rubbing their cranks over using the 6.5 Creedmore. It's not a hatred for the caliber that drives me crazy, it is how it is being flaunted and touted to hunt game, that is a difficult animal to take down. This video depicts exactly the stuff that drives me crazy (short ride for me) when I see a poor shooter/hunter trying to make shots that he never should have made to begin with. And.........this happens all of the time in hunting scenarios. Schtuff happens when hunting. I believe that if the first shot had been made with a larger caliber, heavy bullet the elk would have gone down. Then there were several other shots that were made available to the hunter that anyone on here would kill to have made available to them in the field, and the hunter either waited too long to make the shot or....he missed!! I'm watching the video and I saying "take the shot, take the shot, take the shot", and he doesn't take the shot! And after all of that shooting was done, the elk had to be dispersed with a handgun.

I don't hate the 6.5 Creedmore, I just to not like the fact that it is overplayed and touted as the catch all, do all cartridge for taking any/all game that walks the face of the earth!!! Some of the applications that I've read about on this forum are totally unethical, irrational and lack common sense! When it was first developed Roy Weatherby shot and killed a record polar bear with the .257 Weatherby, does that mean it's a polar bear cartridge? I wouldn't recommend it for polar bear hunting and hunter survival rates, does that make me a .257 Weatherby hater!!????? I wouldn't use a ball peen hammer to split wood, does that make me a ball peen hammer hater!!?? And this is what many of us are trying to say on this forum about the 6.5 Creedmore!!

Not arguing about adequacy. The 6.5CM can do it, but you need to start considering your range limitations. Towards the end of the video they found the elk and had to shoot it again with the 6.5 and with a pistol. If I were a CM hater I would use this video as a case study. Haha

I found this gem the other night. Didn't want to share it, but here it is! I really appreciate what my 6 & 6.5 Creedmoor's are, but this is not how or what they should be used on. If you've hunted long enough, you're gonna have a bad experience, but DAYUUUM!

Ya know that it's videos like this that give so called hunters and hunting in general a real bad rap.
This video for me is tough to watch.
I'm sorry IMHO this should video should never have been shown.
OBTW I am a big advocate of the 6.5 Creedmoor and what this cartridge is capable of.

If you can't accurately put your shots in the boiler room while hunting game animals then you shouldn't take the shot, period. That range is different for everyone, weather conditions will vary this for a individual shooter from day to day. Cartridges with high velocity, launching heavy for caliber bullets with a high BC are ideal for obvious reasons but if you can't shoot a 7, 300 or 338 or whatever well due to recoil then a lighter recoiling 6.5 may be the answer as long as the shooter can place a shot properly. And sometimes the heavy bullets aren't the answer either, at short to mid-range they are dropping faster, recoiling more and may be drifting more too.

In today's nice new scientific world recoil doesn't have to be a consideration for error. The new muzzle breaks are exceptional. My friends 16 year old daughter shoots my 50 bmg, the brake on my 300 Weatherby reduces felt recoil to that of a .223-.243. And the brake on my 338 lapua...about a .308. I personally would not take a shot at an Elk past 300 yards with my 6.5....,that's why I have other rifles ..Right tool for right job

Pretty sad and many things oh so wrong. I'm just curious why anyone would post this sh%# show on any forum then act proud of it? Yes, it can happen but why announce to the world you have very little knowledge of LR Hunting technique and even less knowledge of basic marksmanship fundamentals.

A crap shot with a bigger gun is not rhe answer. All the engery from a bigger bullet goes out the other side of the animal. If its not hit where its supposed to they dont die quickly. Ive seen a dork hit a bull 4 times @ 400 yards with a 300 win mag and it suffered a lot longer than the bull in video. Its marksmanship problem. Nothing else. Never saw a 1 shot flop leg shot before.

I doubt there is anyone who hasn't wounded an animal but wow is that bad. There is no doubt the shooting was **** poor. What does **** to 6.5 is when he said he'd shot it in the neck and it still took a shot from the pistol to put it down for good.
Needless suffering because of the wrong caliber for the game type and very poor shooting (3 feet behind the animal while it's standing still - wow)
These types of videos are exactly what powers animal rights activists.

Even a neck shot is debatable......i never saw 1 good hit.

Of course things can go wrong. That is the point. If you are using a marginal cartridge you have no margin for error. Based on how that leg was injured I believe more energy would have made the difference.
