How close are RL17 and H4350?

I'm currently doing some looking into the best powders for the 338 RCM, and I am seeing a good bit about RL17. Problem is I can't find any right now. Last week I picked up some H4350 just because I know it is pretty versatile, and I see now that it is right next to RL17 on IMR's burn rate chart with H4350 being #124 and RL17 being #125. I'm curious to know if these two powders behave similarly in cartridges like the 338 RCM and if I could work up with H4350 from a start load of RL17. Thanks!

Also I'm all ears for powder suggestions for the 338 RCM. I have H4831SC, Varget, IMR3031, TAC, and the aforementioned H4350 that might make good candidates.
Your choice of bullet/weight (i.e., Hornady 225 IB/SST) will help you in which powder is best for your set-up. Most bullet manufacturers have a reloading manual/online reloading section, and you can also call their technical support for powder/load recommendations. As with anything else, YMMV. The RL-17 has been my go-to powder for my .300 WSM with Berger 215 for many years now without any temp issues in the Montana wilderness. Good luck!

All is well brother, I quit my job and started a new business so I've been off the grid for a bit, on top on top of that there were a handful of folks that said I was ruining this forum so I wanted to make sure that I wasn't
Bean, no your not! You give helpful info for those that need it!!
Keep it up!!

This morning StaBall 8-lb WAS available at $261 midsouthshooterssupply.com
It seems that people are learning about this great, dense powder in the 4350 range.

Been using STaBall sense it became available. Had mixed results. I'd say about80% of the rifles I've tried it in like it. But when they don't its an impressive dislike. But in medium case cartridge its a speed freak. Got 3200 fps in 6.5 CM 110 Barnes TTTX in kimber Adirondack with18 inch barrel. Had no explanation for that speed. But it was one of the dislike gun. probably way out of accuracy node.

SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE WAS 49.95 IN STOCK. Have been able to get 4 at this price in two weeks. Thay had 8 lb at 366.95 but left it on shelf, had all I need for now.
Oh well, next time. Hard to believe they have that much in stock ! Thanks for the web site bro. They won't ship to me, though. And out of stock.

As for StaBall in 338WM, attached are two files showing recent load work, 70.5 and 71.5 grain StaBall, with the new Hornady 225gn CX. It is representative of what this rifle does with a decent load (powder/bullet).
