That newfangled contraception takes all the fun out of catching with your own hand! We used to run dozens of Tip ups and run between holes. If in a Shack would use a pole but mostly ran Tip Ups!!!!
Here are some pics of Old School "YoYo" Automatic catching. We have used them off of Tree Limbs on Streams/Ponds and you can use on Ice with a TriPod made out of sticks/wood.

Those new contraptions are just tip ups where you get to fight the fish on a rod instead of hand lining. It's a game changer for little kids if they can fight a big fish on a noodle pole. Super fun.

I have a couple of those old yo-yo rigs my old man gave me. I've yet to catch a **** thing on them. Keep trying just because I want to see it work. Going to have to break them out again this weekend.

So glad to see you taking your children out fishing and those Little Rods are a lot of fun FIGHTING a Fish!!!!! A lot better than hand lining like with TipUps.

Short answer...NO!! I grew up in OR, before it was overrun by people from the land of fruits and nuts. At one time I was stationed at Pt Mugu, CA while serving in the US Navy.

Had a short but fun day. My son and I brought these home today. 16 over 10" with the biggest being 12 1/2". These will eat good!

Many years ago .I use to go over east with my builder Boss.They built there own ice house on skis, fit 3,plywood on each end with a tough windproof fabric stetted between, then a couple closet rods set up to keep stricter up.This a high wind area,youde drill, set and throw your slush and ice in.Then pop out,pronane heater cold beer, and fish 10 ' type waterside jigging.The catch was average 2-3 lb rainbows.Lot of those guys canned the fish.Then at work we'ed pull out the crackers and caned fish.

Well I'm great to fish with….the fish avoid my line/bait and "boogey" over to someone else's line!

While I've never "ice fished" with it (only used for stream fishing) …..I've got some cast bullet loads for my AI that work great on trout. Hoping for one to pass that little hole in the ice…..would definitely be challenging!

Update: If this was/is a genuine invite…….That's a long way to travel to watch other people catch fish! Also, travel with my wife….we're kinda joined at the hip! Would having her along, disrupt the guy's day out?

Though having her along has a major plus…..she loves cleaning fish!

There's only 1 solution to that. You need to go more often so the fish become acquainted with you. After that, they get more friendly

We've been through Victor quite a few times…..just didn't remember it by name. It's a major metropolis as compared to Winchester….I should've remembered it! memtb
