Hard Water---who's ready to go

HOLY SMOKES! I'll bet you needed to slather on the Ben-Gay after reeling in that haul. Are the dinks feeding some bigger fish too?
The only water predators these perch have are pike (I'm told they are in there, I have no proof) the lake is overcrowded and needs thinning, IMO.

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, where are you located in SW MT?

We've had a warm December but some of the small ponds are iced over. Anyone else gearing up and getting ready to go?

Thoughts on Electric Augers? I'm looking heavy at a ION
I run a Clam Drill Plate Pro. I'm in construction so I have lots of Milwaukee tools and batteries. I figured no use buying an auger that sets 2/3 of each year.

I don't mind at all. We live in the Gallatin Valley and have lived here since retiring in 2014 - and I understand that makes me a newcomer to the state. Being nearer to the grand-kids (now numbering 7) made the choice fairly easy. And no, we don't live within the city limits of Bozangles!

ahh, but are you from Cali?

We have a Gen 1 Ion. It is reliable and easy to use. The original battery is pretty flat but the new one runs amazing. Been a pretty warm winter here in South Dakota so only been out on the ice once this year. Caught a mix of trout, perch and pike. The new Predator by Clam is an awesome piece of kit if your state allows auto hook setters. The trigger can be set extremely light to pick up even the smallest nibbles. It comes with two triggers so you can use it as a hook setting device as well as a flag only device.

That Predator is pretty cool. We have a few Jaw Jackers but there's no flag on them. We do run bells for notificationā€¦
