Hammer Hunter Load Data, (See page 1, Post 8)

I picked up some Peterson brass for my new 6.5 RPM and some 99 & 124 Hammer Hunters. I decided to load up some 99's first. Didn't have much time so only tried a couple charges and powders. These are the first firings, barrel not broken in. Weatherby Backcountry 24".

Started with H1000 and Fed 215's
70gr = 3374
71gr = 3436

Then tried 7828SSC and 215's
68gr = 3583
69gr = 3642
70gr = 3731
71gr = 3726

No bolt lift or smears on any. Just some fine ejector marks on all. Thinking that's just an edge/burr around hole.

Will pick up where I left off and go until I reach pressure. I could also seat out a little further. I seated to 3.272" at first band.

I have some H4831SC, H4350, and H100V I was thinking about trying for faster powders.
Freaking Awesome

These loads were deemed safe in my rifle. Work up any load using safe standard reloading practices.

Both powders look promising for reasonable velocity with "other" powders for the 166.

shot the first group, at 58 grains no pressure issues brass looked good. Second group I shot at 59 grains, pressure sign and heavy bolt lift. The Labradar didn't pick up the first group even with the trigger. 59 grain was hitting 3243 fps so I didn't bother shooting the 60 grain load.

That's fantastic

Just FYI, Steve Davis found that a non magnum primer worked better in the PRC.

Havoc,
Need twist and OAL if you would measure it?
1/8 twist
2.93 coal
.118 off the lands

Here is my previous speed with N565 and target, I personally thought it was quite mild for a 124 grain bullet, my factory Hornady Match was 2960 with a 147 ELDM. All my load development has been done by Unknown Munitions.

On a side note, I can not get the bullets to feed out of a mag, the bolt skims right over the top. I've tried Hawkins and MDT mags.

Brass: ADG new
Powder: H4350
Bullet: 143 HH
Primer: Fed215 match
COAL: 2.920
Ran a ladder from 57.0-60.8, hit pressure at 60.0 with a light ejector mark, and a clear one at 60.3. Very tight group at the target.
Velocity from 2967-3169.
Working around 58 gr this week. Hoping it shoots as usually Hammers do.

Do you have velocities for shots between 57 and 60.8?

Nice!!! I'm going to bet you're getting close to pressure. I want to say, from off the top of my head, my load using RL23 ended up around 3240 fps

I think you are correct. I have no plans on testing H4350 further. I was looking to try your RL23 load, but didn't feel comfortable going above 61 grains given my Peterson brass case capacity is only 69 grains. QL and GRT use a preset of 74.0 grains of water. That said, I got 3190 fps with 61 grains. After a few firings, I think I'll be able to test higher.
