About what I would expect.
How did your primers look?

300 WSM
1:10 24" bbl
166g HH
67.5 RL17
Fed 215
Fed brass
COAL 2.830"
.224" jump
3285fps

I see you coal is less than what a manual coal is. Do you feel that putting the bullet that far in the case had any negatives or positive?

Still had a little room. I actually loaded up to 77.5gr in 0.5gr increments. I started getting compression around 75.5gr and noticeable compression at 77.0gr such that my CBTO was a tad bit longer.
Hmmm. IMR 7828ssc might get you more velocity and still have enough room in your case. N560 or N565 probably would too, if you have any....not sure how much you want to mess with it though, it's probably doing good as is ha ha. RL26 would also probably work if you got any to run with.

True! I haven't been as aggressive as I should be in accumulating powder. Right now, I've got about a pound of RL-22, two pounds of IMR 4831, and a pound of RL-25. It's looking pretty bleak at my house at the moment. :)

I've been intrigued by the Vihtavuori powders. I'll see if I can locate some N560 or N565 somewhere. I might need to band together with some hobbits, an elf, a dwarf, and a wizard on this quest if I'm to be successful...

Ha ha I got really lucky with N565, I managed to be perusing through powder valley during the 57 seconds that 8 lbers were actually in stock, and had my card info memorized lol

I was using RL26 in a 7 mag to get 3390 with the 151 (cayuga), 73 grains, adg brass and GM215's, I would bet a powder like N565 or RL26 would put you north of 3400, but even without, 3350 will still work just fine lol

This rifle is an HS precision and their magazines are silly short. So I had to do this to fit.
My pal has the exact same rifle and I had to seat the bullet even deeper for smoother feeding. I definitely noticed a stiffer bolt lift when I tested this. I then reduced the load by .5 grain and problem solved.
So, I have to conclude that the deeper the bullet is seated the more neck tension and in turn higher pressure.
I haven't seen an issue with accuracy and jump with these bullets.

Good to know. I will be giving it a go this weekend. Or I guess when my fcd shows up.

I am new to hammer bullets, and would like to buy the right ones for hunting.
Anyone have a good recommendation for hammer bullet size and powder choice for a 16" barreled 6.5x47 with a 8 inch suppressor.
Have been running 123 Hornady Amax with 38.3 Varget getting 2750fps. only fair accuracy.
Classic 124 Hammer Hunters will work great if you want a pick up in velocity take a look at the new 115 Power.

Also have a 26" barreled gun been running 130 Bergers with 43gr of vv 550 at 2950fps

Any help would be welcome.

thanks,

Ben Wiley
