That is interesting,
In the 7 PRC I'm just starting to load for I'm getting 2980 with168 Classic Hunter. And 3140 with a Hammer Hunter143. These are just my 1st efforts, I think there's more there because I didn't have any pressure signs.
Sadly I must wait until it gets back from the gun maker, issues with feeding, but the rifle is accurate.

All I'm saying is, this whole thread is really weird and I definitely don't believe it all. I'm not a hammer lover or hater. I use them but I'm also using McGuire Ballistics copper rose and have used the CEB Lazers.

You would have to have a 28"-30" barrel to comfortably get the velocities he is claiming. The other thread he is using a 20" barrel. But whatevs…in the end, it doesn't even matter so I will check out lol.

No bullets are perfect but I'd have to agree most "problems" are shooter induced. I've had to use 2-3 on a buck once with a SST back in the day and I instantly thought "MAN! That buck was tuough!"…..but low and behold I was just a crappy shot lol third shot finally hit the heart then the buck expired

I don't accept that. Before Hammers existed, I switched from Partitions to Barnes, because a buddy who butchered game was impressed with their performance.

Deer mostly DRT or only a step or two. 300 WinMag, admittedly, and never took risky shots. But copper killed as well as the venerable Partition.

That's your experience. Generally speaking I think it's hard to argue that if one is going to kill better it's the cup and core. Tons of examples of guys using Barnes and having long tracking jobs. It's hard to argue against micro metal fragmentation causing more tissue trauma.

Obviously, expectations are very individual things but that does not mean that expectations are immune from being unreasonable and I am not saying the OP's expectations are or are not unreasonable. But the key issue (IMHO) is this post is dependent on what those expectations are. (I thoroughly enjoy the various technical discussions of bullet performance and I am going to research more about SG and how it relates to terminal performance). But much of the 10 previous pages are driven by an initial statement related to failed expectations and we don't know what they were with any specificity.

The first shot in the video linked occurs ~ at the 54 minute mark, the second shot at 54:17 seconds. Note, the moose was on its feet for ~20 seconds after the second shot and for 10 seconds after the 1st huge gush of blood from the side followed by the gush from the nose and mouth (is that performance "below" expectations?). In my opinion, the video indicates the second shot resulted at minimum of massive damage heart and potentially the lungs (lung damaged may have occurred on the first shot allowing for the blood to exits the mouth).

I just thought I'd stomp the nest. I'm in Mexico mule deer hunting and my 7 prc is loaded with 170 hht . I just thought I'd try them being I have never killed anything with hammer bullets and this will be my last time ever shooting these things! Shot a buck at 318 had to shoot him twice and could have used another. Shot buck at 785 he needed another bullet is running 3220 FPS!
Going back to my Berger's and Barnes !

We are highly skeptical at this point of the actual bullet manufacturer and muzzle velocity, grain, etc etc...my initial post saying "click bait" was unfortunately the closest thing to the truth. It is cool having the camps circle the wagons and discuss it with field experiences and class. We all love our certain favorite products and if that's what your confident in and what's working, you should be! Stick with what works for you. If you can put that bullet in the 12 ring with nearly 100 percent confidence I'm confident the animal will die. Oh btw last night I heard a skirmish in my hen house. Grabbed my Glenfield Model 20 22 LR with a Redfield 2-7 scope and Dewalt flashlight. The raccoon was hightailing it for the river but as he reached the berry bush line he turned and looked back. I ranged it this morning. 48 yds. I steadied the crosshairs between the glowing yellow eyes and squeezed off the shot. Whack!! The Federal 38 grain hp hit him right in the forehead with 118 foot lbs of energy. He was still crouched dead on the spot. There was some ensuing kicking and nervous system thrashing but I didn't feel a follow up shot was necessary. The beast was dead. That's a heck of a long range shot off hand while holding a flashlight! Bullet performance Have a good day gentleman!

I heard it said another way - Most moose are killed with the the first shot, the moose just doesn't know it yet.

My first moose didn't know he was dead with a hole thru his heart. My second one took off thundering running away like a whitetail that may have been because the shot distance was 21 yards and he got scared by the muzzle blasts. My wife's dropped at the shot and stayed down, both shoulder broken from a measly 7mm-08, 140 TSX at 65 yards.

Now that you mentioned the raccoon, my elk hunting mentor killed a fair-sized black bear with either .22 LR or Mag, can't remember. Brain shot.
