Hammer bullet concern

I've never seen an animal that was a perfect uniform density like ballistic gel. To me it's a useless test for bullet performance except to say wow look how pretty my mushroom is and look how deep it went!! Now stick some hair connected to flexible hide with muscle grain bone different muscle density then all the different densities of the thoradic cavity out at your personal shooting distances and see what happens. I used to use a couple 5 gallon buckets lined up packed full of clay and whatever bedrock was shoveled in with an old hide to test bullets on at 300 yards. There's just way too much going on after the muzzle to ask every bullet to perform perfectly every time.

The AH load data thread is always at the top because it's quite simply the best load guide found anywhere for that bullet, and people are actively adding to it almost daily. There might be more easily found info in that one .pdf than all across the rest of the internet, including Hammer Time.

When i decided to go with hammers i emailed steve and went with his advice along with the reviews here at LRH. Ive not been disappoited. I developed loads in my 250ai, 257ai, 7x57ai, and 338 rcm. All are shooting under .7 and all but 1 are shooting .5. I stayed in the recommended twist. This is my first year hunting with them and thanks for alleviating my expansion fears. Watching that test several times, its obvious its unstable. I hunt in 3 states and will post some photos of results here. In past experience of decades of hunting with barnes tsx, i never had a failure and little damaged meat. Availability was the reason i changed to hammers. Barnes just arent available. Thx

Good luck and I'm looking forward to your report

The site itself doesn't really promote hammers to any degree, the members do. It's not like Len or Steve is out here bumping threads for the advertising, the people using them are discussing and sharing their information and experiences. You know, the entire purpose of this forum.

Making it a sticky however would be the very promotion you dislike as every new person to enter the reloading section would see the Hammers pinned up top and automatically assume they are great since they were special enough to warrant a sticky without going into the weeds to find out what it is about them that works.

The Absolutes are a new design that show some unique properties and people are putting up their own money to test them then sharing their results here so that everyone can make an informed decision. That is why the thread is so long, Hammer is a two man shop that doesn't have the capacity to test the bullets across such a wide array of cartridges, barrel lengths and powder combinations so we, as the community using his product, are offering our experience to fill in the knowledge gap. I'm not quite sure why you seem to think that is a bad thing?

i don't think the topic itself is a bad thing , its the frequency of it in the reloading section .. it seems some days that, hammer bullets is the ENTIRE purpose of the reloading forum

hammer bullets R&D is not a reloading topic as much as it is about hammer bullet performance , do the absolute hammer and hammer hunter threads belong in the " rifles , bullets , barrels & ballistics" subcategory instead ??

if any new internet traffic wanted to learn about new bullets , i would think they would look in the rifles , bullets , barrels & ballistics but if they wanted to hear recommendations on how far to jump a specific hammer model , that would be reloading related

So it turns out in one comment he mentions that he got the 214gr bullets from a guy to test them. He states that the same guy also has a .375 Cheytac and tested the 411gr bullets but he .

But based on the comments in another video the guy had a different result than claimed there.

The absolute hammer load data thread is literally nothing but reloading data for the absolute hammer bullets, there is very little info about its performance on game. There is also the Hammer Hunter load data thread which is the same thing but with a different bullet. There are also one about the 124gr HH in the .300 PRC, one about the 166gr HH in the 30-06 and one about Hammers in the 6.5 Creedmoor.

This thread is the only one of those hammer threads that does not discuss reloading data so perhaps it is in the wrong spot but the rest are right where they are supposed to be.

So in the first 5 pages of the reloading forum there are 6 hammer threads out of 100 total threads, there are also 6 threads about Bergers including one that is introducing a new bullet but I do not see you complaining about them.

but all the reloading data is about is that specific bullet , not the reloading process ( that bullet being the main topic ) .. belongs in the bullet section ... yes i agree this "hammer bullet concern: belongs there too ..

i mean look at the shock hammer thread , that guy realized where that thread belongs

[/QUOTE I think I'll start a thread about bullet failures on terminal performance on game instead of success and see which bullet has the most neg response what you'll think

I guess it is how one looks at it. If I were going to load for the Hammers but didnt have information about reloading for them, I would go to the reloading section to find threads on it. For me, If I wanted terminal results on hammer bullets, I would go to the rifle, bullets, barrels and ballistics forum.

Thanks for keeping us all inside the box. We do want to use the forum appropriately. But lets cut everybody some slack so we can all enjoy it. A lot of these threads are sort of hybrid classifications and can fit as well in one section as the other. If there's a concern about classification, feel free to PM the OP'er. For myself, I find it hard to understand the sensitivity about honest reloaders discussing the new big thing they are all working at figuring out and testing - Hammers in this case. A lot of guys like them. Is that not ok? Welcome to join the fun. No need to be on the outside. ;) If there's a real and objective problem with the Hammers, we all want to hear about it fair and square. Enough of us have had extensive experience with the Hammers ourselves to know something didn't smell right with the negative vid this thread started about.
