H1000 Alternative

I've been watching this forum for a while, novice reloader, shot first bull in Colorado last year with XBolt 300WM. Reload with H1000, Nosler brass, 180 AB, 215 primers. Can't find H1000 so wondering which other powders are about the same to start a new load?
I hear alot if guys saying rotumbo is an excellent choice I just had a box of shells loaded for the 7mm ultra mag I'm building I've yet to put a scope on it and see what they shoot like but we had and used h1000.good luck finding a good alternative

Just got in from shooting some 200 gr MKs pushed by RL-26. Below is a copy & paste of sending a report to a new friend I did a trade with on the MO trading thread. I traded LRPs & powder for SPM primers & a LOT of 200 gr MKs. The SD & ES opened up as I pushed the load today, but I had single digits with a little lower vel. RL-26 is magic. Pushing 200 grains at almost 3200 fps
———————————————————-

I shot some of those 200 gr MKs today. They shoot great in my 300 WM. As good or probably better than the 190s. These were loaded with RL-26. I definitely found the pressure limits. Nothing bad happened, but I had heavy bolt lift on a few shot and also light ejector marks. I shot 3 groups of 5 @ 74.4 gr, 74.6 gr, & 74.8 gr. The 1st & 3rd groups were just one ragged hole my thumbnail could cover at 100 yds. Speeds on the 74.8 group: 3183 fps, 3160, 3152, 3158, & 3167. The ES opened up toward the higher powder charges.

I have enough RL-26 now. Scored some more. I was planning on using it for both 6.5 PRCs, .300 WM, & possibly the .243. I have enough data to believe the H1000 is more temp stable than the RL-26. I'm also in good shape on H1000. I'm going back to H1000 on the 300 WM. I mainly just wanted to let you know the bullets are working out for me. I haven't used the primers yet, but feel very comfortable using them when I do.

I think the 7977 is going to work well for you. You might give up 1-200 fps in vel, but that 7977 will be as temp stable as anything on the market.

you take care & let me know how the 7977 performs for you.

H1000 and Retumbo are made in Australia by ADI and are AR2217 and AR2225 respectively as are Varget, H4350, H4831, H4895 and many others, also not available here in Australia at present either. See attachment straight from the ADI website.

Thank you a useful table including Norma and some older Winchester powders.

A friend of mine purchase a 6.5 PRC and couldn't find any factory ammo. Since I reload for my own 6.5 PRC I told him that I would work up a load for his rifle. I didn't want to use what H1000 I have for my reloading so I tried some IMR 7977 and IMR 8133 that I had. The IMR 7977 shot very accurate but the velocity was too low. Next I tried some IMR 8133 with good results. The accuracy was very good , the SD and ES was great. The velocity isn't quite as high as H1000 but close.

For me US869 was third behind Retumbo and 7828. I suspect forth if I'd had that pixie-dust; aka, H1000. I'm wondering if Hybrid v-100 could be used?
I've been playing with Vihtavuori N570. It's very close to Retumbo, I'd say a tick dirtier, meaning maybe 15% more residue on the cartridges but the pressure on hotter days is not there like with Retumbo. When it's 90 outside my Retumbo loads show signs of pressure on case, primer and sticky bolt. Nothing changed with N570.

RL25,RL26 and even RL33 which was a ghost even in good times but yields the highest velocity
Rl25 and RL26 will get you over 3000
Oddly enough I get 2890 with RL17 on 6.5CM which faster than factory my PRC ammo shooting 143ELD's so I'm curious to try RL17 in PRC but regardless the RL25/26 will send the 140-143's blazing 3100 - curious to try some 153 Atips. If anyone has tried that combo let me know

I've been lookin for over 6 months for H1000 and lucked out yesterday. A store in Anchorage had a large shipment of powder and they had quite a bit of H1000, but they limited you to 2lbs total. I got 2 of the other three powders I needed instead. I drove across town to meet a friend for lunch so I stopped at Bass Pro. What do you know, they had H1000 as well. This is the 4th shop around here that has gotten H1000 in less than a week, so power is coming back, albeit slowly.

IMR-7977 was designed to compete with H-1000 back during the shortage when the ADI plant burned.

I have some N-160. I'd imagine it would work for 150-180gr pills?
