Gun Owners: Think Twice Before Posting Pics of Your Firearms

I come from a place that by your standards even the most right wingers would be considered socialists. We have had a register for 100years and we have to document private arms sales as well and there none except than those that are both vegan and pacifist that want to take any guns away.

Actually, your government confiscated not only firearms, but also any personal property that they deemed fit from civilians during WW2. If they didn't like you, and they knew you had something, they would come after you.

Many Norwegians may have been against the Quisling government, but others were in favor of it. And they had the power to enforce their decisions. So as government they made laws and by definition thereby determined what was 'legal' and 'illegal'.

This is the problem. You might look at the Quisling government in the same way American conservatives look at the left wing socialists here, who disregard our Constitution and try to subvert our nation. But once they take power, whether you like them or not, they suddenly have that magical stamp which says "legal" or "illegal" regardless of all your values and traditions.

Some people may be fine with that, and spout the line (from Orwell, ironically enough) that if you did nothing "wrong", you have nothing to hide ..... but we've already established that next week's politicians may have a different definition of "right and wrong" than what our founding fathers did. So I'd rather live by the non-aggression principal of classical liberalism that Jefferson said our government was founded on - If I'm not infringing on the basic rights of others, then government has no right or authority to interfere in my business.

Since your registered legal firearm is already in the every federal and police database and is essentially public information for any cuck that has a lawyer, I don't see why anyone should care if big tech has this information.

If you're afraid of a biased and unfounded accusation under red flag laws as related to the interwebs then keep your guns and gun views off social media, specifically Facebook.

Also its been common knowledge not use your real name, or real information on web emails, forums accounts or other forms of social media. As far as google knows, I'm John Smith. One could subpoena a IP with your ISP or have a warrant to seize your devices but...you are already being looked at (hard) for a crime at that point.

You are correct, but that absolutely does NOT mean that the govt doesn't have access to the data.
For that matter- any other organization with a good hacker can conceivably access that information, as well.

This sums it up perfectly, and is the reason that anyone wanting to save what very little privacy they have left will not only cut all ties with "social media" but also severely limit what they put on the internet, period.

thats why i do not post any pics at all. I understand what your saying so that means that if you care about your pricacy then you should think before you post.That is all i am saying.And if they want meaning the gov. wants your info they do not need pics to find out what you own.

It's no secret that technology plays an important role in our lives. Almost every single aspect of our life is ruled by technology, from smart phones to computers and the internet. That's why it's not surprising to know that Google and Facebook are keeping tabs on gun owners' firearms.

According to The Firearms Blog (TFB), the two tech giants are scanning users' pictures to look for serial numbers. They're then creating an index of every person's firearms based on the image scans. If you've posted a picture of your firearm on a social networking site and didn't smear out the serial number, chances are it's indexed on Google images. Simply type in the serial number in quotes and search images. What comes up?

The guys at TFB went through their image library and found images of various firearms and silencers where the serial number is clearly visible. They then typed it into Google and viola! Every image from their website showed up in the image results.


Although it's unlikely for a random person to have the serial number on your firearms, it is absolutely dangerous for social media giants to have this information. Facebook and Instagram are both owned by the same company. Same with YouTube and Google. When these platforms data mine this information, this creates an extremely dangerous situation.

Gun owners have worried about firearm registries because they inevitably lead to confiscation. If the government has tabs on every single gun in America it makes it easier for them to come beating on our doors, demanding that we hand them over (just as Beto has proposed). These social media giants and their owners are lefties. For all we know, these private organizations can willingly hand over a person's name and the serial numbers on their firearms to the government. And before anyone says this is an invasion of privacy, just remember: when you signed up for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every other social networking website out there, you agreed to their terms and conditions. Dont post pictures of your firearms on social media sites. Most of them are owned by our enemies. But if you already have maybe you can make a post about how you lost all of your firearms in a boating accident.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people think that nothing bad will happen to them. If every person doesn't stand firm in every way about our Constitutional rights then we will surely loose them. Dietrich Bonhoeffer should be our example of what happens when we become complacent and assume that nobody will do nefarious things to force their ideas on a society.

all the fudds believe that if they throw the AR shooters to the wolves, they and their sleigh full of "hunting guns" will be safe. they won't be. the Fudds will just be alone and underarmed to face what comes next.

I removed all of the gun images from my hosting site. also Googled any serial numbers which may have been gleaned from said pics and nothing was found. Beware that there are some sites where your pic is "converted" and that you can't delete it from the site.
