Glasses or no glasses with scopes

Similar problems with old eyes here! Now-a-days I need 2.5+ readers to see things up close. They do not work looking through scope, eye relief, focus and parallax are all inconsistant. Using no glasses something either target, field picture or crosshairs will be out of focus. I use a low magnification set of glasses 1.25 and all is clear throughout sight picture. I use a magnifier in my bow's peep sight and it works for great me. my 2 cnt's.
I have no difficulty focusing on my bow sight. With my scope, lots. I have had the same issue, piute.

My son was jabbing at me about arrow group size not what it once was. I blamed my lack of not shooting as much, the magnifier fixed that. Glasses fixed the groups size rifle shooting! Need to have the sights/crosshairs and target in focus together for good groups!

I had worn glasses(near-sighted, astigmatism) since I was 8 years old. In 2009, I had cataract surgery. At the time I had intraocular implants put in at the same time, When he took the bandages off the next day, it was like someone had flipped a switch. 20/20 in both eyes. Ask your doctor about it.

Hey All,

My brother wears glasses, he is having a hard time shooting. He can either see the target, but cross halrs are way out of focus or cross hairs are clear with the target out of focus. How can he fix this, is anyone dealing with this issue.

I appreciate any and all help.

I wear glasses too. Adjust the scopes reticle focus (the end you look through that turns) with his glasses if he wears them while hunting.

Hi Andrew, long time reader, first time post. I have astigmatism, had it all my life and yes I'm getting on, 68, and normally wear progressive glasses that also enable me to focus at distance, computer work through to reading. The problem with any corrective lenses, trifocals or progressive, are that when shooting you are not looking through the centre of the lens at the correct pupil spacing but looking through the upper inside corner of the lens. Also, remember your eye spacing does change from distance to reading as your focal point changes. This is made worse with progressive lenses as they are blurry away from the centreline. My solution is to wear distance contacts made for astigmatism for my target shooting, hunting, road and off-road motorcycling and skiing. No fogging either. I back these up with some small readers that have been made to wear while having contacts in. It also enables me to wear regular sunglasses or goggles. I use Cooper Vision Probalance Comfilcon A Toric flexible monthly contact lenses as they allow the eye to breathe. Bausch & Lomb also make hydrogels but I find the Coopers more comfortable & thinner. You do not need reading glasses for hunting/shooting, the reticle and target are in the same plane if adjusted correctly and are at a distance. If you want reading capability while hunting wear some sunglasses with a bifocal lens in them like Dual. I do.
Cheers,
Terry.

I too have a astigmatism and use progressive lenses. It helps if you get the diopter adjustment sent correctly. At times it is still difficult to look through the correct part of my glasses. Never thought about the contact lenses. I will have to check in to them.

I tried contact lenses years ago. Doc recommended some for shooting as he was a hunter himself. Could not get used to jabbing myself in the eye.

I began wearing progressive lens a while back and have noticed the same thing. I can focus either the reticle or the target but not both at the same time with the glasses on. Could this be corrected with parallax adjustment?

I know that I can see the reticle with the eye objective adjustment. And then use the parallax adjustment to see the target.
