Getting pumped for Elk!.... Even though it's archery lol. NM & Utah

Definitely!! Sounds like you're planning adequate time to get it done too!

I should draw WY elk next year and planning for it to be my only elk tag and I will basically have the same exact hunting date plan as you!
Good luck to everyone here headed out elk hunting! Please post updates with pics so we can see how you did. My son and I have rifle bull tags in Arizona. Our hunt starts this coming Friday the 23rd.

If any of you guys with rifle tags need a good backup rifle (not for long range), check out the add I just posted for a Remington Model 760 BDL in .30-06. Once again, best of luck to everyone, I look forward to some nice pictures of big bulls!

Awesome! Congrats! I'm doubly jealous. Love the heavy arrows at high speed. That thing has some steam rolling behind it! Four small fletchings too! I've experimented with that in the past with positive results, mainly when above 275 fps. It had a more preferrable stability to drag behavior. You definitely have it dialed in and it paid off!

Thanks dudes!!!!!! I feel like a real bow hunter now 😅😅.

Freaking awesome. Let hear the stories!
I did totally spot and stalk, so no calling for either bull. The NM bull was on evening of opening day. He was with about 8-10 and I got about 100 yards out in front of them in the direction they were feeding. They fed right into me and I was just about surrounded by cows before the bull finally came into view bringing in the rear of the group. I could barely get a range on him without getting busted. Ended up being a 51 yard shot on that bull. Got an entrance and an exit but he snapped my arrow when he went to bolt off (21" of penetration).

The Utah bull happened on day 8 and was freaking epic. Bulls fighting and bugling everywhere. Four mature bulls within 150 yards of me all screaming their heads of. I just snuck in and got in the middle of them. My bull ended up bedding solo, down in the bottom of this drainage and I could see him from up on top. Pretty sure he wore out from all the fighting. I snuck into 68 yards of him and waited him out. About 10 minutes later another bull came over the hill and started a bugle battle with him that got him up out of his bed. They screamed back and forth while I waited for the right time to draw. Eventually he started raking his antlers in the brush and I drew back and double lunged him with a full pass through at 68 yards. He only made it 14 yards and died right there in front of me. That was the most epic morning on elk hunting you could ask for!

That's some great hunting and shooting right there! I love the spot and stalk method. Used to always trudge the canyon walls in the black timber during the heat of the day when others were largely back at camp. It's the most rewarding for sure.

Incredible! Great shots. Appreciate the story. I didn't get a chance to go this year, but last year I shot my bull at less than 3'..........yes feet. He bugled at about 8 yards coming in and about blew my hat off my head. Most insane hunting experience I've ever had. It will be hard to top it, but I can't wait to go try again.
