How many points will you have? I need to use my points for Wyoming here in the next few years.

I'll have 4, and my buddy will have 2, and he wants to pay both of our "special tag" draws so he can go lol. So we'll average 3 points and "should" 100% draw a special general tag. But we'll see how those odds faired this year lol. I doubt 3 in the special will guarantee a tag next year.

Not sure if the area your going to they will be in Rut but grab a Hyper hot lip 2 call I believe it's called. It's been a great call for me when I pulled a Bow back !

Just thinking about your 120 yard shots ...seems about the same as my 1244 yard Last Rifle Bull kill ! Ha ha

I jumped on the solo hunts years ago and remember them well ! I would think you should be safe from Bears down there .
When I hunted Montana....it was something you had to be ready for !

I feel like Wyoming points are about to jump with the passage of 90/10 on special critters, even though it doesn't affect deer, elk or antelope yet I'm afraid medium to high point holders will be looking to dump points

I 100% agree. I think just idea of it potentially happening to deer, elk & antelope will cause people to start using points. That's why I'm not totally confident in drawing next year at all lol

Wow, sounds like you've got a great Fall ahead of you! Have you hunted the Manti before? I've hunted it a couple times, let me know if you are having any issues finding the Elk. Good luck!

Reading this has me checking my pack list again!!!! Wish you much success on your hunts!!!! Got my first and only elk in 85 doing solo with a gun. Many mule deer hunt in Wy solo in years past lol. This January I found out I had a mild stroke affecting my balance and walking a little. 2 days before the deadline I booked with NTO with just two points. Bought the special tag and couldn't believe I got drawn!!!! Blessed and lucky. Will be my first guided hunt. Going to be a tough hunt, but if I have to crawl to get a shot then crawl I will.

Every one needs a mountain to climb in life. Mine just has an Elk waiting for me this year.
Saying this just to remind ourselves to cherish our time in the outdoors. We never know from one day to the next what's ahead.

I love the prep and gear checking before the hunt also!! I'm always testing new stuff right up until the hunt starts! Just picked up a KOWA 884 spotter and **** that thing is impressive. A visible improvement over the 85STX AND 80STS. Pumped about that.

The Kowa is better that the Swaro ? What eyepieces are both scopes using ? Might have to check one out. Are you packing the spotter or the NL Pures ?

Thanks dude!!! The Kowa is the 25-60 eyepiece and the swaros had the 20-60 eyepieces. The KOWA is better than both IMO. The fine focus also helps drastically with too I'm sure. I really want to like the X-series of Swaro but never saw myself packing around a BTX, and if you're not going to use the BTX, then KOWA is better as an individual spotter.

Yeah, I'll just be carrying 12X42 NL pures and the 884 KOWA for everything this year. Might eventually get another 554 strictly for archery elk hunts. But not this season.

That's why I'm only going the last 9 days. I really want to experience the rut there, and don't want to get burned out before it really starts!

Drew a NM archery elk tag starting Sept. 1 and a Utah archery bull tag with 2 points in the random draw, that should have taken 19 points. I'm getting to NM on Aug. 31st and hunting until Sept. 7th. Then Heading straight to Utah to finish out the season until Sept. 16th. Really looking forwards to these hunts! I'll be hunting the Junipers in NM and the high country in UT. I've only killed one cow elk with a bow, so this should be fun. Got my Ventum 33 Pro shooting 520gr. arrows at 290FPS. 80lb limbs 30" draw. Just shot this group at 120 yards last night, so still technically "long range" lol. Going to shoot the Grim Reaper 1 3/8" pro mechanicals.
