Gas

i think we're all touching on important factors that have contributed to current situation we're in. there are several causes of the current fiasco.

as far as the ports go, there was no issue before prior to 3/2020 with them, why did it start all of the sudden? because we shut it down and when they were open, they were 6 feet apart and probably understaffed. workers had to be out of work for 2 weeks if they talked on the phone with someone that had covid (yes, i'm being sarcastic).

same goes for gas. Costco was getting 2 deliveries a day i bet and then all of the sudden, nobody is coming. they can only hold so much gas in their underground storage. the solution has to be to stop the orders.

the government is flooding everyones back accounts with money. so when stuff does open up, we're ready to go spend it. we're ready to go put gas in the car and drive to the beach or the mountains after being holed up in an apartment for a year.

in my opinion, the response to covid was WAY worse than the virus itself. hindsight and all though.

but could that not be due to different driving habits? people were stuck inside for the previous year and wanting to get out? the pandemic was still going on so people may have been less likely to want to hop on a cramped airplane to go visit family they havent seen in a year.

blaming oil companies or russia entirely for this situation is BS propaganda from this administration. prices were expected to go higher this year prior to the ukraine invasion. you can't just close down everything and then re-open it and not have inflation. if it was expected, then steps should have been taken to ease the burden for when it actually started.
But to take the steps you mention would require competence and the ability to plan, two of many things the Brandon administration is incapable of doing.

On a cursory look, I can't find anywhere that Thomas Sowell addresses the current situation. I see allot of his quotes from the past but nothing current. Do you have any links of him addressing the current inflation?
Doesn't have to be the same principles apply pump money in more money chasing less goods equals inflation. Want to stop that take money out by way of interest rate hikes.
We juts have a situation where they decided to ramp up spending to insane levels while we have less goods available. Either one of them will cause it but it always holds true about money into the system causes inflation. Which they have blown out spending to an insane level.

i think if anyone can figure out a solution, it's a bunch of long range shooting enthusiasts and hunters on an internet forum 🤣
Can't be worse than the government we have now. They can't **** without getting it on themselves.
I'm fact Jim and I don't see eye to eye on much but we have found some common ground solutions. That is if you don't have to pander for votes.

Actually, the economy was growing at a pretty sustainable rate under Obama. And by sustainable, I mean inflation wasn't revving up at the same time. I would've expected the economy to rev up under Trump because Corporate America knows that the GQP is all for eliminating any and all regulations so that they can maximize their profits.
The COVID stimulus was, in my opinion, more than necessary (I would blame the Dems for that one, and this is also a critique that is much easier to make looking backward) and is what has largely fueled the economic explosion and accompanying inflation that we're seeing right now.
If we jump back to Carter, which I believe you also mentioned, he made the tough but appropriate choice to appoint Volcker head of the Fed Reserve and tasked him with reigning in inflation, which was spiraling out of control. He jacked interest rates up, which really slowed the economy and caused a lot of short term pain for a lot of people, but ultimately did reign in inflation, which was the goal.
Well the covid spending was only needed because they would not let people work. Second why was it needed. Nobody learned to have 6month worth of savings?
I have a job where I could have worked safely and couldn't. Why couldn't we actually count on individuals to make proper choices for themselves? If you wanted to go to work and risk it why shouldn't you be able to. Especially after the initial lock down and data started showing it was not needed.
You know it was a farce after the first two months based on all the law makers that said we needed this breaking rules. They knew was just a way to grab power and spend money thus increasing the power they had. Look at all the rampant fraud with it. I survived just fine without the help from the big guy.

I for one like this thread as when I see higher prices it makes me feel better about mine. Although I travel 80-100k miles a year so I'm screwed either way.
Ours are still 4.79 as of yesterday. Probably going to get worse when summer gets here.

I'm on my way to NC with an extra tall trailer and currently getting 10 mpg running 93 oct
we're averaging somewhere in the $3.70's - $3.80's here. i travel all around the eastern part of the state for work. I try to gas up at Costco if i can. got it for $3.39 today.
