Well, my hunt is over. I had a hunt in NM Unit 2C....which I guess pretty mild terrain by Elk standards. Just what this old 74 year old needed anyways. Our camp was at 6100', more or less. That unit is in the NW corner, south of Bloomfield. Everything there is really DRY right now. I shot a 6x6 which may have scored just under 300, nobody really measured, which they tell me is big for unit 2C. He was old, his teeth really worn down, and a couple of broken tines (which would of helped the score I guess). Not a record by any chance, but I was happy to get him...my first, and probably last Bull Elk.
Sorry about the side-ways pics, didn't know how to rotate them.

Looks like a great bull to me! After 12 years of elk hunting I was fortunate enough to score on bulls the last 2 years, I tagged 3 cows before. You will always remember the first one in every detail ! Dont sell yourself short, there may me more hunts in you future !

Congratulations Sir! You should be proud and very inspiring to see someone 74-years young on a successful hunt! You may just have another one in ya. Hunt on!!

congrats on your bull. I just got back from hunting unit 12 in New Mexico and for whatever reason there were an over abundance of busted up bulls this year.

Nice rld346. I'm 76 & have taken so many elk it would take me awhile to recollect them . But with each new one I stll get excited just like the first. Rifle season here starts on OCT. 24th this coming Saturday. Forecast low 4 dg & 70 % precip ( snow ) . UG.
