Fireworks and bird dogs

We expose our pups to loud noises young and randomize the exposure intervals. I've never had anyone tell us that their dog was gun shy, firework shy or bothered by any sudden loud noises.

My lab is a big sissy when it comes to fireworks and thunderstorms.

Same here. I can shoot and shoot some more around her and doesn't bother her a bit but if it's thundering she's on my or the wife's hip.

Fireworks are a mess for working dogs.

Fireworks are a mess for many dogs, working or not. I`ve always hated the **** things. Not so much the organized community shows ( although they can be hard on dogs too ) but the neighborhood fire fights. All the bottle rockets, and strings of poppers and cherry bombs and M-80s....I hate them all.

Our dog didn't care about fireworks until she was 4. No idea what changed, but now it's a big problem for her. And locals like to do 4th of July week, so we've already had the (illegal) mortars going off. Between the fire danger of living in the PNW tinderbox and the toll it takes on my dog, I have come to violently hate fireworks

My current dog has never liked them. My last lab was very similar to yours and could care less about them until she was around 8 and then she didn't like it. Neither of them are or were gun shy.

My GSP was never bothered by gunshots, but fireworks…we headed to the basement and turned the TV loud. He would sleep OK then. But I only cat napped in my recliner for most of the night. Strange.

I've been very lucky with my GSP
Fireworks on the fourth didn't seem to bother her at all she just looked in the direction they were coming from
As long as she's with mom and dad she must feel secure
During a thunderstorm she may bark once in a while usually in the middle of the night

My lab does well with fireworks and thunder, border collie not so much....
