Dream hunt animal

I love my tree stands

In my opinion that isn't hunting that is just killing. Not much glory when someone else does all the work.
You won't kill many caribou, goats mule deer moose or sheep from a tree stand

But your leaving a lot on the table if you think that is the only way to hunt
And ps… just because you do it dyi on public land… that doesn't make a dink buck a booner 🤷‍♂️

You miss understood I didn't say that is the only way I hunt, but I do love hunting from tree stands. Who cares if you get a boner or p&y I don't need to be recognized by antler size. The adventure and the people I share the adventure with is all that matters.

I would take a dink making a memory rather than taking a trophy animal without putting in the effort to earning it

I have pretty much hunted everything I wanted to except Marco Polo. I will give some younger members some unsolicited advice: if you really want to do exotic hunts every year, take a chance and figure out how to start your own business. In my 30s I made enough to blow 15k or so every year on an African hunt or guided NA hunt, but I really wanted an African lion and not a canned South African hunt. I knew if I didn't do something different I would never be able to afford a 21 day Tanzanian tented safari or have the ability to take off nearly a month to do it. So I started my own business. I took the profits from that one and invested in real estate heavily during the global financial crisis.

I would also add this: when I was in my early 20s I always thought my life would be complete if I could shoot a caribou worthy of mounting ((I have now shot 13). After I did that, I thought, no, I really just need a Dall sheep. Shot that and said, I will really be happy if I shoot a grizzly. Did that, then needed a 6x6 elk. Then a big kudu and gemsbok. Next was a Cape buff. Then I thought if I shoot a lion and and a trophy elephant I will be totally satisfied. Now? I hunt the animals that are fun: Alaska Yukon moose. Elk. Deer. Rabbits. Coyotes. Trophy animals can be like making money: you can never have too much - until you realize it isn't a competition. So at this point I really have little desire to hunt Marco Polo - I am not sure I would enjoy it more than other hunts I can do.

If you think you don't have to earn it on a hunt just because it's guided you are mistaken
I've had a lot of excellent guides and I've had my fair share of crappy ones that have cost me animals as well

Looks like I'm leaving to the yukon to go moose guiding in 13 days. Should be fun.

What we were discussing or at least I thought we were is governors tags where there are numerous guides tracking and keeping an eye on one particular trophy animal so one person can spend stupid money to come in without putting any effort into the killing of the animal.

Good luck on your hunt hopefully you get the trophy you want and get to make great memories

Polar bear and Moose I can't help with but black squirrels are plentiful around me. It's a melanistic grey squirrel and the genetic variant tends to persist in local populations. I keep telling myself that I should get one mounted but the boss has other ideas….
Get two mounted , I'll take one that is posed, smoking a cigar.

Was thinking about this earlier today.

I would love the chance to go on another Rocky Mountain bighorn hunt. It's though to draw, tough to hunt, and I was lucky and successful a couple years ago. Hook, line, sinker. I want to do it again!

That said, I would say dall sheep or bison are the next on the list.
