Dad’s 243 Win Stuff

IMR 4064 and Sierra 85 grain hpbt bullets is what my left-hand Rem 700 loves, it's taken whitetail, coyotes, bobcats, and racoons by the many.
Thanks. I have about 350-400 Sierra bullets. 100 of them are 100gr and the rest are 85. When I start rolling them for my cousins 243 I will look into the IMR4064 as it's deadly in my 30-06 w/ Interlock 165's. I have IMR 4064, H1000, H4350, IMR4350, Varget, H4831 & SC, H4895 and H4198. So I have a lot to tinker with over the winter.

I've been hunting with and loading for a Win 70 in .243 since back in the early 70's. I loaded from 60gr up to 105gr and just about everything in between. Including the above, I have 4 of them now. They are a fun caliber.

Back when Nosler just had the Solid Base and Partition, I loaded the 85gr SB and the 95gr PT. Either one would easily take a whitetail down and shot some of the best groups the M70 has shot. I would try either of the 4350's you have, that gave the best velocity and accuracy overall from three of them, the last was a hold out, it liked 100gr bullets and Hybrid 100, go figure.

Rather than think about acquiring a .243, ask yourself what you would do with it? If you don't really have a use for it, rather a lot of use for it, you have far more bullets and brass than you'll use in a lifetime. And after loading a few boxes of ammo, you'll wonder if your rifle would shoot better with a more modern bullet. Then where are you? Left with a bunch of old bullets and buying new bullets to reload. Been there, done that.
Well……you sort of ****ed on his parade!!!🤨🤭👍 He had it all lined up about rationalizing the purchase of a new gun and then, you wrote the truth about what happens after one gets a new rifle/cartridge to play with. When I read this thread it made me think about the ten, old, red and white boxes of the Hornady 139gr 7mm bullets that have been on my bullet storage shelve for the past 10+ years. It made me think, "hmmmmmm….maybe I ought to think about a 7mm something?", then you post brought me back to reality!! Thanks for your thoughts 👍👍

I am going to reload it for my cousin who has a .243 rifle. I do have some modern bullets as well. He is excited about shooting the stuff I have. I not buying a .243 when I can use his whenever I want.

I am going to use my cousin's 243. Those old 7mm bullets would be great for the 7MM-08 I am looking into right now. I might be able to save you the trouble of getting new gun and getting the 139's our of storage and down range.

I think is pretty awesome that you want to work up loads using the supplies purchased long ago.

I've got my grandfather's 30-30, and I can't wait to take a deer with it. I've got plenty of larger guns I could use, but to take a deer with my grandfather's rifle will be pretty special. I'm sure you will feel a lot of emotions when you take something with his bullets.
