so...if shooting only out to 1000yards...would u say the 215 is better then the 230 out of my 30-378?

have a m98 mauser in a 30-338 needs an extractor repaired then will begin shooting it again. currently using 200g accubonds, how might the performance be improved with these 215 Hybrids. extractor wasnt damaged during shooting. just wanted to clear that concern first. thanks terry

Well I believe the accubond has a BC of .588 and the 215 Berger is .696. Thats a pretty big difference that would show up by retaining velocity longer and also less wind drift and drop under the same conditions. If you are looking for a target bullet, I would say go for it. But if this is a hunting rifle I would wait until we have several kills with these bullets at various distances so we know more about its terminal performance and at what velocities they work best within.

just saw this thread, i killed a bear in september with 215 bergers out of my RUM. muzzle velocity of 2950 and the bear was 80-90 yards. shot right behind the shoulder blades broadside, bore size entry and about 4 inch exit wound. hit no shoulder or leg bones but broke multiple ribs on the way out. bear was a bang flop. i have these set to try on elk in a couple weeks if i am lucky enough to find a legal bull.
i was very impressed on the bear though. more damage than i have personally seen from 210s

Well guys I am just back from a quick hunt in Wy for a few goats. I have in no way made any decisions about the terminal performance yet. Reason is, I only have 2 kills with them.
The first kill was at 802 yards putting the impact velocity at 2191 fps and the energy at 2292 ft lbs. I wanted a rib cage shot behind the front sholder but I was off about 1/2 to 3/4 moa on my wind call and got a dead center shoulder hit. The goat was slightly angled away so the exit was closer to the neck. I will say the bullet did what I wanted for this shot. It had a .308" entrance and an exit of close to 2". The goat dropped right down and due to my poor placement it did squirm around in a circle while kicking for a short time. But as you will see from the blood loss it did expired quickly. Here are the pics.

The next kill was at 350 yards. Again I was not happy with my bullet placement. The goats kept moving on out and I dialed in a little extra and hit her at the top of the back. ( spined her) She dropped on the spot and soon expired from massive blood loss. Hitting the thick spinal bone with a impact velocity of 2648 fps and 3348 ft lbs of energy made for one huge hole where the bullet hit. It was a mess and I didn't take pics but the Berger did cover my butt with the poor placement. Unfortunatly I really don't feel I learned much about how the bullet reacted at this distance due to the placement.
I will be doing more testing with them soon. But at this time I am not going to say I have made a decission of whether or not I will make them my hunting bullet. But their accuracy is awesome.
More when I get it.

Will do. Yes she never got up and died quickly considering the shot was farther forward than I intended. In no way am I drawing a conclusion yet! But if you look at the angle between entrance and exit I was just on the edge of the vitals. Lukily the bullet opened up good and did plenty of damage and anchored the goat. I give the bullet more credit than the shooter here.

Not sure. Might be a MT antelope this week. I want to see something from 300 yards if possible before I go on. If not I will be hunting Elk this weekend and will have both the 215, and the proven 210 loads with me. I will use the 210's unless I feel confident on the impact velocity for the 215's for the shot. But like I said I am not comfortable with the 215 for hunting yet by any stretch of the word.

Ok, another update. Today I got with a couple friends and we took 4 more antelope with my 300 win and the 215 Hybrids. All 4 were bang flop one shots.
Distances were 385 yds, 405 yds, 1005 yds, and 1285 yds. On every shot, even the close ones, all entrances have been small and .308" size. Exits at the closer range are large, like grapefruit size. Exits on the 1005 and 1285 were smaller. About 2" for the 1005 yard shot with an impact velocity of 1937 and a beautiful 1 1/2" exit for the shot at 1285 yds with an impact velocity of 1677 fps. I like the fact that every antelope we have shot at any range the bullet has entered before expanding. Most of the close shots have included a good amount of bone so that could be some of the large exits. But for sure they are killing pretty darn good at all distances. I look most at what the bullet does at the longer ranges with lower impact velocity. I need a bullet that will expand for the long shots first and foremost. So if I have to have a little more carnage at the shorter distances I can live with it. Dead is dead!With the heavier target jackets I didn't expect this good of performance at slowed velocities / long shots on these soft antelope.

But I will say this, I am going to keep using them to see how the rest of my season goes. I also will say again. They are deadly accurate and the BC is a real asset for the longer pokes.
