Simple: They have no desire to solve the problem. If we had less crime, we would need less government. More crime equals more government. If crime rates fall we need new laws and more folks working for the government to enforce them. Government can only grow, never get smaller. Welcome to the enlightened, you are now a deplorable.

In Gulag Archipelago, Solzhenitsyn talked about how the socialist government encouraged common criminals and thugs to go out and do their thing, in order to keep the normal population in fear and necessarily dependent (since they had no right to bear arms) on the protection of government. In their case, the only class of "criminals" that the government was concerned about and cracked down on, were the political criminals who disagreed with the power of the State.
My point is that our own globalist socialists already have a tried and tested template to copy from. History repeats, etc etc. Globalists, democratic socialists, soviet bolsheviks: same philosophy, different candy coating.

Here is the catch 22 that scares the begivvings out of me. IF the ATF gets away with this, and proves they have this power, no one can stop them from going to the same law and change the definition of the maximum bore size you can own. Congress set it at less than 1", attempts to change it have failed, just like bumpstock legislation failed. Say the ATF decided to change it to less than 1/2". Then who would complain? Just a few extreme range shooters? How about everyone with a shotgun over .410? What if they decided under 1/4" was allowed? 1/8"? Once the genie is out of the bottle you can't put him back in without spilling blood. Would it happen today? No, not under the current administration. What if we had a different one? If this doesn't scare you to death, you are one trusting soul.

I am and always will be a member of the NRA out of respect for the organization. But, I donate money to the GOA and the Second Amendment Foundation instead. You will never hear me say a bad word about the NRA. Never.

They helped write the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). They helped author the 1968 Gun Control Act (GCA). They also helped write FOPA, the Firearm Owners Protection Act. They helped write the 1986 Hughes Amendment, and helped push Reagan to sign it, along with the Brady Bill, claiming they would fight it in the courts after the Dems shut up about it... They sure lied about that one...Didn't do jack crap. And now, they're the ones after the Vegas false flag, to open their mouths and say that bumpstocks should be banned. So, yes, they are the biggest offenders for destroying our 2A rights, in the last 100 years.

And to answer your question... MY personal rights, always trump what's best for the common good, as long as I don't infringe on your rights. That's why the Declaration of Independence starts out by saying that we all have the rights to LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Not being slaves to the government is part of being a CITIZEN, not a SUBJECT. But if you want to live like a good sheep, and trust that big brother shepherd is keeping his best eye on you to keep you safe because he cares, you're gonna be in shock when reality hits. They don't give a **** about you or me. They care about lining their pockets and totalitarian power mongering, and how they can keep gaining more power over us and our lives.

but the very idea of a constitutional republic is that a written set of laws protects minority rights from the abuses of the majority. Ie, the 2nd Amendment.
A true democracy would allow 50.001 % of the population to throw away the rights and protections of the other 49% on any whim.... which is why our founding fathers hated that idea so much.
