Build ideas please

I have plenty of.223/556 ar stuff but no bolt guns. Yet another great idea! Pros/cons of 22-243 vs 22CM

Assuming a fast twist in both?

I've been shooting 22-243AI and 22-243 (plain) for many years. They are both extremely accurate and rather addicting once you get started. The 22-243 is easily made by just running 243 Lapua cases into a 22-243 die. I've got Redding dies but I'm sure others are available.

An 8" twist will get you all that you need out of this cartridge. A faster twist will allow you to shoot bullets over 85gr; if that interests you. Most of my shooting has been done with bullets between 75-82gr with my 8" twist. Powders around the burn rate of RE 23 work great.

I've shot a ton of groundhogs out to 1,000yds with this cartridge. It's a lot of fun.

My arsenal currently consists of a 223, 6CM, and 6.5 PRC. I love all three. One could theoretically run a 156 berger at nearly 2900 out of a 20" barrel chambered in PRC. That would be my choice in your shoes.

Can I run 156s in my short action? I already have binderless mags for the WSM that I believe are 2.950

At that length and SAAMI Spec chamber you'd be about .060 off the lands. I'm running them at .090 off in my long action. I can't see why that wouldn't work. The best powder for that load would be RL26, N565, or H1000.

Ok then. Two down, one to go.
6.5 PRC 20"
308 20"
?? 22-243, 6CM,?? Getting good options here!
I'd stick with the Creedmoor parent case here as there's plenty of brass options that don't have to be reworked at all. If you're wanting a fast 22, the 22CM is a great option. I like my 6CM, and both of those cartridges run well in 18-20 inch barrels. The 22 excels in the 80 grain area while the 6 loves 105-115. I'm running 108 elite hunters at 3100 out of a 26" so I think 2900 would be attainable from an 18" and 2950 from a 20".

Instead of the .243 have you thought about 6mm Remington? A bit more horse power and still use a short action. Mine is a tack driver . I had it built in '89 and has a 22" Shilen #5 contour 1:9

Nice! Have any pics?
