Can anyone answer - is there an ATF form to have approved prior to going to MX to bring a gun back into the US after a hunt?

Yes, there is a form to be filled out for customs at the boarder and a permit from Mexico that has to be bought and filled out. Plus Mexico will want to know the number of shells you are bringing in.
