I have stomped around the west all my life and have yet to see a Sabertooth tiger, a mastodon or a t-rex. Has not changed my life a bit... Maybe there are folks who think they should have been protected as well. The only thing that won't change is change. As a species, we are pretty self centered to think that we control this planet. It's a shame that common sense, reasoning, and logic has become extinct...
