Do the sharpie deal with a resized case and then fire it and see what the results are.
It'll be a bit before I get out again. I just looked at all of my fired cases from this weekend and all of them had scratches in the same spot. It shot great as well, which is the most frustrating part!!! Only shot 6 shots between pheasant hunting, 1 about 3/4 inch from the group and the rest touching. Then adjust my scope and put on in the X.

The .200" was measured from the back of the brass, not the rim. Not sure if that's correct but the numbers seem telling. I took a picture for reference. It doesn't look like the rcbs dies are getting it back to virgin diameter.View attachment 334402View attachment 334401
I had a similar issue with RCBS dies repeatedly with belted magnums. Sometimes the issue was solved with a thinner than factory spec shell holder. Several manufacturers made them.

The problem is, you may very well have to go so far that with a regular die you're going to overdo things resizing the rest of the case.

One answer other than reaming out the chamber might be to try the thinner shell holder in combination with a small base body die.

I really have no clue what I'm looking at! Anybody able to glean any information from this?

Yes, then at the end I move into the barrel. I think if you watch it all you can tell what it is.
Just making sure I was oriented properly. I'm no gunsmith but that looks extremely rough to me and looks like it needs honing and polishing. There's a couple of "rings" there that look like gall marks for lack of a better term and appear to be slightly raised but without a better look it would be hard to say.

That was what surprised me. Lots of "rings".
