I pack mountain house, peanut butter, nuts and dehydrated fruit. I also pack a small fishing pole for some fish if the opportunity presents its self
gotta try this outI have just tried several of the Peak Refuel selections and will be switching to their brand for my 6 western mountain backpack adventures in 2021.
I was looking for taste, high calorie per ounce, high protein per ounce.
They are not cheap, though.

Salt makes everything taste better, but not when it's the dominant flavor.
My Doc would flip out if he caught me eating that !
It also required more water than the package directed.

The ice cold beer at the truck after a long trip and packing out meat is hard to top!The binge before you leave and the feast when you get back are the best parts!
Whichever you decide on the brand, you can supplement it with a good old PBJ sandwich. It is my go-to quick energy boost on my wilderness hunts and backpacking.I am looking to do more backpacking. I see all the standard backpacking meals but im wondering what alternatives you have found that is very cheap and light weight.
