Check out the APR Hunter for $799. I just had Alamo build my dad a custom 300 win mag. We went with a traditional look including a color case hardened action. It turned out beautiful and is a shooter. You can see pics here:

I just built a custom 223 on a Defiance Tenacity action. The action is awesome, I purchased mine from Southern Precision - Bugholes.com.

If I remember correctly, it was $850 or so. Also, I know the Origin by Bighorn is a good one if you are looking under $1000.

I would wait and spend an extra $3-500 and go with a defiance deviant, bat, or impact action. The logic being, if you stick around this game long enough you will sell the lesser action at a loss to get the better one.

Looking at doing a custom in 6.5x47L and would like to go full custom, but would like to keep the action cost at $1K or less. Also, for ease, would like to stay with an action, in the Rem 700 footprint.

Who makes the best one, in that range, and who has the best prices?
