Berger .277 EOL Extreme Heavy Hybrid 170 Grain.

Can you elaborate ? My son may want to build one that's why I am curious. That 3000 fps is kind of a magical number for me trying to push one of those 170s to and over 1000 yards. The 7 wsm and 300 wsm are common cartridges. The 270 wsm is pretty much the under dog so to speak regarding ballistics and bullet selection. With the newest Berger especially there 170, it changes the game for the 270. Puts it in the same arena with the others.

So did you actually verify it to 800 yards or even shoot for groups past what ever distance you got the 0.344" group ?
I seen great groups with the 95gr vld in a 243win. 1 hole groups at 100yards but did not have the twist rate to stabilize it past that. 8-10" groups at 300 yards.
That's is why I'm asking if you have shot groups past your 100 or 200 shooting distance.

Saw the exact same thing in my brothers 243win with 105Amaxs ended up just rebarreling with a 1-8" twist.

I've been shooting the 170 EOLs since they came out in a WSM. Pushed them to 3150 but that is where bolt lift started showing pressure. Around 3050 is where I found the best accuracy in a 1:8, 26" barrel and good brass life. Accuracy of this combination will compete with any of our long range hunting rigs from 6.5x257 Weatherby mag to .338 edge

Or...just get some Roy porn for the 270 Wby in a long action...

Steep shoulder and a long neck...ahead of his time...

3225fps of 270 heavy goodness...no signs of pressure...28" barrel...

Regret building mine on a short action, but man do I love this cartridge! I have been using the 165gr
Matrix shooting lights out .25 to .75 out to 700 yards. I plan on getting out to a 1000 this spring and also trying the Berger 170's. To date I believe my accuracy node is ave. 3058fps with the 160's in a 270wsm ,26" Brux if I remember correctly. (On the road working so I don't have my book in front of me)

Not a whole lot of good high bc bullets available for the 277 cartridges. Kinda excited when berger started building the VLDs. I think for the die hard 270 shooter, Berger has come thru. Like to see Hornady make some ELDs as well. Put some affordable match bullets within reach of guys that just play and don't complete. Also good low drag hunting bullets (ELD-X). I should say heavier ELD bullets

the problem with the 277 bore diameter is that there are 5,000,000 1-10 twist barrels and maybe 5,000 1-8 twist barrels in use- so the economics of making a bullet the majority of people cant stabilize is hindering the 270 and the 257categories. Thats why we only see small production companies making premium bullets.

The manufacturers should leave their caves and start a 1-9 or 1-8 twist 5r barrel 26-28" as standard for the 270 and 270wsm/wby or my favorite the 270-300 winmag.
