Berger 208 LRHT on game

No. Not enough animals under my belt and not far enough away. The more threads/posts I see like this one the more we will know. We will try to get a longer shot on a doe whitetail next week.

I may load them in my 20 inch AR10 (assuming I can get the precision) and shoot a spike and a doe at 240 yards (the closest distance I can shoot aross a ravine) or maybe from 348 yards (the furthest spot I can shoot through power line clearing) during the extended season.

To be clear my personally experience is with the 190. We shot a doe at mid 200s and one at 500ish. I would have to go look through notes for exact numbers.

Just checking in to see if you had any additional updates on the 208's. Either range reports (hopefully at great distance), or field reports with another animal down.

No stress, just wasn't sure if you had any new data or info.

I got to shoot groups at 500 yards first of the week with a friend of mine. Shot several rifles that day. The gun delivered the second best group of the day with 4 shots at 1.9".

My brother came down and I asked him to take it with him hog hunting and he ended up shooting a 150 pound sow at 300 yards. He said the bullet exited behind its shoulder with a golf ball size hole. He didn't cut it open but said it never flinched. I've got a pile of corn in one of my pastures baiting the hogs. When they keep coming in constant I'm gonna setup around 600 yards and take some shots and see what the longer range does.

LT88, I could not find what H1000 powder charge you settled on. I read the 80.1 with no pressure when you were doing the initial work up. Is that what you settled on when you did the seating depth exercise?

I thought I reported that, sorry. I went back and tried N565and got ES' of 3, 5, 6 on three different groups. Settled on a node that gave an average of 3,079' avg and three groups of an average .2's to .3's moa so I switch to it. So my current recipe until barrel stabilizes is N565 77.6 grains 0.045" off lands puts the COAL at 3.642". That combo is a little high in pressure. No ejector marks but the primers are flattening a little. Again this is a hunting round for me so if I find a node at the higher end I will use it because I would never use it in hot temps.

I scored 2 eight pounders of N570, your load sounds encouraging, gives me the data to gauge my load work against.. I have only used the N570 on the 30 Nosler.

Not yet. Been skiing and tied up as of late. Headed out this evening on perch on the hill waiting on the hogs just before dark. Maybe they will come out. If I could figure out a way to use one of the thermals on the rifle I would do that and take some night shots on them.

Ok had a little test run with funny results. Went out set on hill next to the creek bottom around 650 yards where they always come out. Well they came out but to my left on the side of the hill. There were about 15 of them and being the good rancher I am I waited until I had two lined up to get 2 in one shot incase of a pass through. So two lined up the one in the front was kinda quartering away. No wind, dialed in 8.3 moa for a 587 shot based off Leica 3200's. Squeezed the trigger front one drops the second one spun around and ran off on 3 legs into the thicket. Got the truck headed down to where the one dropped. Bullet struct in front shoulder exited the left jaw in the head about nickel size exit. Front right shoulder was broken, neck vertebrae was shattered in a spot and left jaw was crumbled. Only problem I had is I didn't bring a knife. I had planned on opening it up and taking pics but dumb butt me forgot a knife. But it's chest was mush when I mashed on it so I know the inside was not a good sight. I think the bullet performed like it should. I'm going to keep testing on them this spring and I will post as I kill them.

I estimate the weight of the hog about 150 pounds on the hoof and the bullet went through about 15" of muscle, organs and bone.

Tag. I might try these in a 20" 30 nosler build if my other intended bullets don'tshoot good enough. Will be interesting to see how they handle an 8 twist.....
