Bad bedding porn

Wally,

Good one.

Unfortunately, the guy who did the Bad Bedding job runs a gun repair store. Yes, he "is" a gunsmith - and that's the scary part. He also took a Dremel to the stock and got a bit more aggressive than I wish he had...

You're right - without the input of those who have "been there and done that" I wouldn't have a clue either.

Right now trying to figure out whether it's worth my time to attempt to repair the stock or if I should buy a new one.

I have found those stocks rather lacking in rigidity. I would simply scrap it and upgrade.

Good luck.

Well his shingle may say "Gunsmith" but with work like that he's no Gunsmith.

I "think" that the stocks used for these only have the aluminum pillar bedding, not the full length aluminum block. When I have a chance I'm going to bring it to work and x-ray it to check. If it's just the blocks then I will likely upgrade to the full length block of the Medalist Sporter. I would assume (?) that the full length block in that would be sturdier than just having pillars.

Unfortunately H-S does not make a stock for the Vanguard.

OK, this is an easy one for me...not you. I am not that close to this rifle.

This is not an Oprah rerun in which it is constantly repeated, "I know how you feel..."

Your present stock?

It is most likely a turd in a punchbowl...

If you spend gobs of money and more of your time to ressuect this complete shooting system to your specific enjoyment and satisfaction, would you be satisfied you diagnosed and rectified the "obvious" error and now this rifle shoots better than ever?

If so, go for it! Work on buffing this turd and see if you get it to shine.

If it does, you have learned exponentially...

If it does not, you have done what? Wasted time and money and your stock/rifle will waft the smell of doodie and you will end up scraping it or relegating it to the back of your garage or gun safe.

In the event you have no real emotional attachment to this specific setup, icksnay it and purchase a stock you are in love with and go from there.

Better yet, take this stock and squeeze it in your mill vise and practice removing selected sections of dried globules out. Go deep and practice. See what it takes to ruin this "ruined" stock.

The weather too doodie for shooting?

Practice on your ruined stock and do a bedding job with it.

You ruin it again?

Who cares?

If you keep trying to hug this particular bunny, who you not suspect or anticipate whenever this rifle shoots astray, you WILL blame the stock.

Firewood!

But practice bedding fodder first!!!!

Blackbrush,

LOL! Good one!

Yes, I've thought of using it ONLY as a platform to learn more about bedding. Since all of the original "skin" or layer inside the stock is gone virtually every part of the inside of the stock needs attention. The odds of it coming out looking good? Quite small, and I know that.

I really like the olive green with black web color that B&C makes, and I suspect that I'll end up with that for a new stock.

Maybe I'll ship this *** stock back to the guy who sold me the rifle.

:D

FYI, I did get a partial refund from the seller to make up for it. Won't buy me a new stock but it gets me on the way. That plus the initial low price and I'll do OK with this one.

I like the idea of taking it back to the guy who bedded it and ask him if he'd like it free of charge to hang on the wall to generate future business. I say go for a new stock and enjoy.

This stock you have, again, is great practice fodder...

You will buy the B&C stock you yearn for and be very pleased as opposed to spending a fortune on the one you have in time, gas, more wasted time, etc., and if that rifle ever strayed on target you would blame it on the stock...I would!

THEN, you would go out and buy the B&C stock and be where you should now, except you would have spent more money on the wasted time, gas, etc., and been that much more aggravated.

My final comment is about shipping that stock back to the huckster who sold it to you; if you do he will use it to scam someone else. He would be delighted!

People like that guy have no shame and cannot be shamed. You saw behind his mask and, normally, people like that will never give you a chance to see them ever again...

Share the pics of your new setup!
