Are Ti Actions Worth It?

Do they work in? I have had my fair share of custom steel actions that weren't what I would call smooth.

They work great. I hunt usually two to three states. Many times my rifles spend hundreds of miles strapped on a mule. I shoot maybe a few shots at game annualy. Preparing for hunts, I will shoot maybe two to four times on 20 different days.
Bottom line slicker is good, light gun is more important to me. It's better for me to put 6 to 8 ounces in the barrel, scope and stock.

Ti is stretchy. Thats one of its properties that manufactures like if for. What that means for an action is that front ring under pressure is going to stretch about 3 times more than steel. That means heavy bolt lift sooner than steel. The smaller bolt faces apply less force to the lugs so something like a 280ai I would do Ti on an ultralight build. I would do Ti on a mag if the weight was critical but you may not be able to run the upper node. Id never do a .580 bolt face Ti action. Theres only a couple steel .580 bolt face actions Id use, and Im sure theres guys reading that have had early pressure sign and lug set back in steel actions that are not up to par for that Lapua bolt face. Theres even a difference in the steel used. Bat uses 17-4 stainless, we can run more pressure with those actions than 416 even with smaller lugs on some models. As far pressure goes Ti would be at the bottom and 17-4 or 4140 at the top.

Was listening to the latest JVB podcast yesterday and they were talking custom rifles. He is having two built and the Defiance Renegade steel action he is using on one weighs less than an ounce more than the Zermat Ti action he is using on the other due to a bigger ejection port and relief cuts on the steel.

Curious, where do you hunt and how often do you do hunts like you described?

Yearly. Wyoming/Colorado/NM. Going to Alaska this year. Obviously the conditions are different from year to year.
