Anyone have any luck w/Rem. 700- LR rifles ?

I bought the same exact rifle (7mm RM) at Cabelas a couple years ago. It consistantly shoots 1/2 MOA using Hornady Precision Hunter 162s. I topped it with a 20 MOA rail with Vortex match rings and a Vortex HS-R 6.5x24x50. The only regret was not going with a Nightforce nxs. But, it will still shoot the lights out with the cheaper scope.

I've seen on several sites some very inexpensive Remington 700 long range , heavy barrel rifles in various calibers. Never looked at one up close, but appear to have obvious rougher exterior finishes on all metal. They are selling for $660 to $750 at Cabelas stores, and seem to be built around 2014-16 time frame. I want to get nephew into long range shooting, and was thinking of picking one up in 7RM, but don't know of anyone who owns/shoots one of these. Afraid of buying one, and it shooting lousy. Just seem so cheap, "price-wise". Just wanted something decent to surprise nephew for his b'day coming up.
It would appear from the comments posted, that it will be hit or miss with this particular rifle. My experience after buying this gun in 25-06 was definitely a miss. The best groups I could get from a large selection of ammo and different bullet weights was just at 3" at 100 yds. Definitely not a rifle that deserves to be touted as "long range". Yes, I know that any manufacturer can kick out a bad one once in a while, but the way a company keeps respect and repeat business, is how they handle the problem. This rifle was sent back to Remington 3 different times with no improvement in the groups whatsoever. I finally concluded that they just weren't going to stand behind it. Have given up and decided to have it rebarelled. Good luck with your choice. Hope you get lucky and get a good one. Just be aware that if there is a problem, you will more than likely be on your own with it.

I bought one in 7mm rem mag 3 years ago. It was the absolute most inaccurate rifle I've ever owned. 2+ inch groups regardless of load. Had it rebarreled and trued. My smith said the action was actually pretty square for a factory Remington. He installed a Krieger barrel and it became a tack driver. Like said above, they are hit or miss.

We have sold several of them in 30-06, 300wm, and 300 rum. All have shot very well. Did have one rum that had a small burr in the chamber. For what the rifle is, I don't think there is a much better deal.

We sold a couple that we had bedded, installed jewel trigger, and small Pain Killer. Installed 20 moa rail with Sightron 4-20 S-Tac scope for $2100. Can't touch this package for the money.

I purchased a 300WM and love it! I put a Timney trigger and had the barrel threaded for a Little Bastard Muzzle Brake. I hand load 220 grain SMK and get 1/2 MOA with a Vortex PST, MRAD scope. This was after a ladder test and I found 77 grain of Retumbo on top of a Federal Magnum primer to do the job. 1000 yards is an easy shot, went as far as 1250 when the scope ran out of juice.

I have bought two of them. The 300 Win Mag is a Tach driver. The 7mm Rem Mag had a dud barrel on it. After looking on the internet, I found that many of the 7mm Rem Mags had barrel problems. They were both purchased about 5-6 years ago. I replaced the triggers on both rifles. I also replaced the barrel on the 7 Rem Mag with a bartlein barrel and it now shoots .5 MOA every time at the range. The 300 Win Mag shoots .25 MOA, if I do my part. I guess it is a roll of the dice as to what you end up with. Good luck!!

I have a Remington 700 LR in 300 RUM and it shoots awesome when I first got it it shot one Moa so I invested in jewel trigger and a MDT LSSxl stock it now shoots 1/4 moa and I shoot it regularly to 1400 yards as long as my dope is correct it hits. Keep in mind this is through lots of low development

Hi, I had a 30-06 Marlin that I had hunted with for a few years and after I retired I thought I would begin reloading and having fun. Two years ago I joined a range where I could shoot out to 500 yds and learned that, to my surprise, I could shoot better than my rifle. I did my homework and ended up getting a 700 LR in 30-06 and put a Primary Arms 4-14 Mil Dot on it. I was having fun and starting to feel good about myself when the range owner, a former Ranger Sniper, offered to modify/upgrade the 700 as a means of showing his son what could be accomplished with an out-of-the-box quality product. Long story short, I went to Europe for four months and came back to a really fine accurized rifle with an extended bolt handle. I added a Timney trigger. The rifle is much better than I am but, we will get there. I love the rifle. That being said, it is a heavy beast in 30-06. I am 71 and the weight of the rifle seems heaver than the equivalent weight M14 did when I was 19. I have to do a little weight lifting to insure that I can handle the weapon. Is it accurate? At the range, when I do my part, I hit steel at 500 yds and I intend to extend that range. Last year in the field I took a doe at 215 yds with a perfect behind the shoulder shot at point of aim from a rest, a six point buck at 50 yds offhand with the same shoulder shot, and a very hurried frontal shot at an eight point buck at less than twenty feet that entered just below his sternum as he charged uphill toward me. My point is that the rifle is both accurate and manageable.you could do a lot worse than the M700 LR.

Bought my Remington 700 LR in 30-06 SPNG a couple of months ago. I put the new 30-06 Magpul chassis on. Installed a digital scope. I've been to the range twice, more trips planned. I'm just getting familiar with this rifle. I have nothing to complain about other than my learning how to shoot. My right eye cataract surgery seems to be sharp. I like the 100 yard digital scope zero in one shot. I bought a variety of ammo to test out. I'll only be shooting steel targets at the range. Hunting is for a younger person. The rifle is very heavy so all shooting will be bench.

I had one and had to sell it because I couldn't get a smaller group at 100 yards than about 2 inches. Also it would not load shells from the magazine. I had to send it back to Remington for about 10 weeks for them to smooth out the action. I would not buy another one! I was very disappointed in Remington's response and support. In their minds a 2 MOA group is plenty good.

You could consider Ruger American. Inexpensive and great reviews. Check you tube on both. You get some pretty awesome info there for free and just a few minutes of your time
