Alternative powder to Re23 for 280ai

magpro might not be much in use, but should be another choice close to rl23? what about grand? some of these will be way different in case fill, but could meet velocity and accuracy numbers.

RL23 and N560 has run very similar in my 6.5 Sherman, which is necked down and fireformed from 280AI Peterson brass.

H4350 will make it sing. (So overlooked)
IMR 7977 is also terrific if you have any.

My son shot this 3 shot group today with 7 SAUM and N560 and 160 NAB @ 2960.
Last time shot was hunting last winter.
No adjustment was made at 80 degrees today.

R19 is the only powder I've used since 2006. Works well for me with 140,150, and 160gr Nosler's.

I run a lot of RL19 in my 280AI's, velocity isn't very impressive but accuracy is great. My 160gr Nosler Partition load runs @ 2860fps in a 25.5" 8 twist barrel with cloverleaf groups. I'm concerned with its temp sensitivity tho.

Got any velocity numbers to share with your RL19 loads for comparison?

Thanks for all the input! I'm going to try to pick up some n565 and try it. I have tried a few different bullets with 4831sc but my rifle(X-Bolt HCS w/ 24" barrel) just does not like it. I'm getting just over 1/2 moa with 57.5gn of RE23 and 160 accubonds @ 2850 fps. I'd like to find something similar of maybe a hair faster…

I mentioned it before but didn't add velocity. With Hunter I get 2875 with the 162 eldx out of a 20" barrel with excellent accuracy. I'd expect you to be close to 3k with a 24" barrel and 160's.

I agree. He should be getting more fps. I'm getting 2930 fps with the 175 Bergers out of a 26in barrel and right at 3200fps with 145 HHT's with RL23.

This is what I was thinking, but I'm getting ejector marks on Peterson brass with anything over about 2875 with RL23 and 4831sc. I was getting just over 3k with 143 HH. Possibly just a slow barrel or tight chamber?

I'm using Peterson brass also. Was it vigin brass or fired brass? Did you have heavy bolt lift? What priners are you using. I'm at 58grn with the 145's and 57grn with the 175's.
