Alliant Reloder 16 vs H4350?

Was it an inaccurate barrel or is the 6.5 creed an inaccurate cartridge? Because I'm pretty sure I know the answer and it has nothing to do with the diameter of bullet.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the diameter of the bullet either. I don't like the 6.5 Creedmoor from my testing. I thought the barrel I had was good I bought it from X-caliber. I can do everything I want with a 6mm cartridge better than a 6.5 too.

I suggest it could be outside factors. I am having incredible accuracy with 6.5 Creedmoor. Maybe because I have a Tikka rifle? It has become my favorite target rifle and when hunting season, I will be carrying it.

The barrel and bullet combo will determine which powder it prefers. RL16 is more temp stable than H4350...carbon build up is the downside to RL16, copper is the downside to H4350.

An 8lb jug of RL16 is going be north of $500, not sure about H4350 in todays market. Luckily I'm deeeep on 16.

Back in May, there were posts on forums or other gun sites about Alliant stopping the sale of powder. You might be well stocked up... Just something to point out.

That's a "good deal"...hopefully to prices continue to come down from what they were.

My go-to in many cartridges from 22-250AI to 375 Weatherby & 416RM has been H4350 for many years. In fact, H4350 & Varget are the only powders I buy in 8lb (4kg here) jugs due to the vast number of cartridges I load them in. The other bulk powder (2kg) is H1000, can't buy Retumbo in bulk here…500g is it.

That doesn't say much about the powder because 6.5 Creedmoor's are a joke IMO when it comes to accuracy lol. I had one, and I was not impressed with it and dumped it for another 6mm. The 6mm Creedmoor is a good cartridge though. 6.5 is meh IMO and over hyped.

PV said these were on clearance, $427, down from $475. With all the powder prices going up, maybe going into military, I think I can use this to stockpile for a while.

Every creedmoor I've shot or been around has been extremely accurate. I would say your experience is not the norm.

I would say my experience is the norm based on a lot of people I've talked to. There's a 6.5 Creedmoor cult and they'll praise it until they die. With that said, I also don't like the 6.5 Creed based on the fact I cannot seat the bullets out in a lot of short action magazines to get optimal accuracy because the OAL is too long. Meanwhile I can run a 6mm and not have that problem with a box mag system. In contrast, I have a 6mm Creedmoor and I will praise that all day. But the 6.5 Creedmoor is overrated IMO and marginally beats a .308 down range IMO.

Umm...This is why they designed the Creedmoor the way they did. It does load long in a standard SA mag.

Running low on H4350 and ordering more. I friend is singing the praises of Alliant Reloader 16 as being better. I am loading 65. Creedmore, 9.3x74R, 30.06.

H4350 has been doing well. Should I make a change?

If they designed the 6.5 Creedmoor this way as you stated, then they failed to take into account magazine restrictions which again goes back to poor design IMO. A lot of your advanced and even intermediate shooters are running box magazines these days. So if you make a cartridge that can't fit that system that's a failed design. That's why the 6.5x47 Lapua and 260 Remington IMO are both better than the 6.5 Creedmoor.

In your factory box mag, how long are you loading your 260 to reach .020" off the lands? I imagine it is alot longer than 2.82"
