Alec Baldwin charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

Your words are my words EXACTLY! I am NOT one of his fans but IMO: The armorer has the first AND last word on everything weapons-related. Also My Opinion: They are, of course, going after his money moreso than him. I totally agree with you, spot-on.
When some one has a gun that you want to look at, that person opens the chamber and checks for a live round and checks the magazine. when he hands it to you what do you do? You open the chamber and look at the magazine for loaded rounds.
Alec Baldwin is guilty of negligence and ignorance. He must face the music.

This was one of the movie armorers I knew when I lived in So Cal. He had a gun store near where I lived and was a good friend to one of the guys I worked with when I trained people. My buddy also trained some actors. So when I hear of some of the reported practices that happened on Rust and the other movie that Nicolas Cage produced it just simply amazes me. Polar opposites of the protocols I heard of especially after Brandon Lee's death.

I think the only questions for the judge are:

Were you in charge of this movie?

Did you pick up the gun?

Did you point it and pull the trigger?

Answers are YES, to all 3 (we know this). Guilty of Murder. Give him the chair.

I didn't read all the comments. But he should have been charged along time ago. If someone hands me a gun the first thing I do is check to see if it is loaded, if the gun is in my hands it is my responsibility. And for him to not check and then point it at someone. Then to claim he never pulled the trigger. For him to blame anyone else but himself is ridiculous

Makes me think of the safety restrictions they passed in California to purchase firearms. You have to take a safety course and pass a test. It's been reported that Baldwin didn't even attend the mandatory firearms safety training. Seems like that only adds to his liability to the whole deal.

For me it starts with the basic rules of handling a gun. Treat every gun as if it were loaded.

Just curious but how many have been in the armed forces & pointed a weapon at another person. While in training ? Remember the MILES equipment ? You used your M16. There are times when pointing a weapon at another is practiced. Look at all the movies in the past. They didn't seem to have these issues. Couldn't this whole fiasco boil down to just being STUPID ?
I was in the Army, Infantry later as a Drill Sgt. (Ft. Jackson class No 4 1973) I remember nearly being hit in one BCT cycle we had, in the head, with a failed blank firing adapter (yes, hey do fail) when the bore tightening rod strip from the body, the rod hit a tree next to my head that I was standing next to and embedded itself over 3/4" of an inch in it. Bottom line, all firearms have the potential to injure or kill others, flagging people with a muzzle is a "no-go"... perhaps not in my case, due to military training can be a little dangerous it's the nature of the beast, but... failing to check a weapon for ammo is the responsibly of each person that picks up or is handed the weapon, there's no second option. Just my 0.2 Cheers

No military experience. Did have former DI's as PE instructors, and vets in my firearms training. Instructions like don't make me wrap that around your F)*&^^^ head made clear consequences started before someone was hurt or killed.

They didn't hire Gunny Highway types, they went with DEI hires. Such is todays world.

This is not that complicated. Lets say you go to a gun range. In this hypothetical you are someone who has zero knowledge of guns outside what you see in tv and movies. You pickup a firearm off a counter or similar. You point that gun at someone, pull the trigger and it goes off. Do you honestly think saying "I didn't know it was loaded" or "I don't understand what happened or how guns work" is going to escape your liability?

You don't get a free pass for being stupid when you shoot someone through negligence.

And such is today world. lol You know thinking back. Even with those instructions you always had one guy that didn't understand. It sure was a mind boggler.

The only time I saw that happen was when someone tried shooting a live round w/ the adapter on. Sure there wasn't someone out to get you ? We all knew the little nutty guy that didn't follow orders. lol

Yeah, there were those types of trainees now and then, one you've brought to mind was when I was attached to an AIT cycle, on the M60 range... but, he soon figured out that might not be the brightest move in his young life to make, and the next day he went AWOL... I never did heard If he was found or not. Cheers
