Another way to look at it is which one does your buddy think he can make you the best rifle with? He may have some secret sauce for one or the other

Both actions will make a solid f-classer. Just boils down to preference and how you want to be able to modify or change your rifle down the road. Having owned both actions I undoubtedly prefer the simplicity of the rem 700/40x design as well as the superb jewell triggers that compliment them. Just not a big fan of the barrel nut, bolt design or accutrigger on the savages for all out accuracy. Ive talked with more than a few gunsmiths who've said that the savage target actions aren't above needing a truing job as well. If you're the type of shooter that changes calibers or your setup alot then go savage. If you are the kind of shooter that sticks with a few certain set of calibers and keeps tinkerin to a minimum perhaps the remmy is the way to go.
